I know that I live in a much colder climate as I live in Scotland but I found out the following.

I have a 3 way Dometic RM 4721 l which is in my Coachman 4 berth twin axle van.

The install is typical of most installs and I shall say it is "adequate" not outstanding.

My van and fridge are now 11 years old and the fridge stopped working on the 240v side but worked great on gas as it is the absorbtion type.

I am a marine engineer (retired) and the fridge started to drop in performance till it was no more than a cool box and no more.

I made enquiries as to the repair / replacement and almost had a stroke at the asking prices.

I was amused at all the horror stories I was given by the so called certified repair agents.

I asked an old pal who was a reefer engineer on the deep sea reefer ships and he told me the following.

The absorbtion fridges have no moving parts, so seals,  no joints, nothing to cause a leak un less the pipework has rusted through.

The liquid inside for some reason becomes seperated out and I had to do the " REPAIR" by,

Reamove fridge unit and turn itupside down and back again as many times as I am able to do just to mix the liquid again.

This type of fridge CANNOT break or stop working as long as there is a heat source available and the liquid is mixed up again.

I took the chance and replaced the 240v element and cleaned out the chimney and gas burner jet and shook the life out of the fridge.

I got my son to help em replace the un it and lit the burner and went for coffee.

After about half an hour the freezer compartment was very cold and this was onl;y after a short time.

I buttened up the whole uniot and set it on high setting and checked it next day and the freezer compartment was down to -5 F.

I was quoted £600 for a "REPAIR" and over £1000 for a replacement.

I was toldd that any of the absorbtion fridges will slowly lose performance and will benefit from a good shake up.

If you want yours to work better try this method as it will cost you nothing only a couple or so hours to try it out.

Any-one who has ever had a Kero. Fridge can relate to this Mike.  [ The standing it upside down that is. ]

Thats an old fix method & yes it does work, a fellow camper near us only last week had a portable fridge that didn't work on 240v or gas, I suggested he roll it around the ground for a while for this purpose, it now works.

Hi there

Is there an website that shows how to remove your fridge
in my case the Electrolux 2301
I've got the Dometic installation and operating instructions on PDF
But it is not clear to me

any help would be good thanks

I inherited a fishing shack that had two kero fridges. After bouncing the one that did not work back to Perth in a trailer, it worked perfectly !!!

I replaced the door seal and motorcycle battery that ran the interior light. It was as good as new and easily outperformed a new Chescold fridge....
