would a small dc 24v 1.8w fridge fan work on 12v if so is it safe

I'm no expert but from my limitied knowledge of electricity and small DC fan motors I'd say it will spin but at much less than optimal speed.....possible also overheat due to the inefficiency so it could be deemed a hazard???. 12V computer fans come in small and large sizes and are pretty cheap so that may be the way to go.
Do you want it for the inside or outside of the fridge?

these fans are the pick with their low power draw. I fitted one recently and it works very well.

 Hi

Yes ,It will work OK & not be harmed[is safe]

 It will run much slower & not move as much air , so might pay to just connect to a 12V battery first & check is sufficient

It will draw a lot less current .than on 24V

 Used two of these to replace noisy ones in my Jayco Westport internally mounted 'Power Supply'.

Seem to have a similar air flow & are very quiet.

 

I use old PC cooling fans for my incorrectly installed fridge.  (Its top vent is level with the bottom of the condensor fins ... have reduced the opening to train the air flow over the fins & installed two fans).  Noise is not an issue for them I find.  Turn them on with a switch that has an inbuilt light as a reminder.

12 volt units less than $20.00 and works very well. Mounted one top and bottom Mounted mine inside the vent with cable ties can't see or hear them
