Scrapbook for retirement

David  you are correct  , there is much to do and interest to follow

At ther moment I am not sure which roaqd to take

When travelling about I would like to make it as interesting as possible

You mentioned  a men's shed,  I started up a mens shed here ,

starting from one person  ( me )  . now our men's shed is going very well

Yep  lots of members working hard  to get a building  etc.

But travelling  is where I am up to at the moment  after the retirement thing kiccks in .... soon

Well I am not sure about this but as I am soon to retire I

was wondering if any or how many retired people made a scrap book of

their  time  after work  came to an end ,

what to include and perhaps what not to include ,

I guess it could be  something to do  to while away the lonely hours as there

may be plenty of this  especially for a solo retirees.

Having someone to pass it on to  might ber a challenge  for aperson with limited family

This scrap book  could be about trravel  or other  or all the time in retirement

Does anyone do this  ?

Paul? Where have you been lately? I've had millions of GN's lately talking about my scrapbook. Millions! You're reading the wrong posts, mate. But to answer your question, yes. Scrapbooks are cool - like a diary. How many times have we said, "Oh, I should have taken some photos!" You can't go back in time so keeping a record of your life is a good thing I reckon. Can't rely on memories alone.

Hi Paul

Once you retire, look around for organisations that need volunteers, join a Seniors Club or Mens Shed or Sailing Club or Bowling Club there are dozens of organisations that are there for you, soon you will wonder, how did you ever find time for work. Retirement would have to the best of times of your life, but you need to go out and seek out the things that you enjoy and would like to do now you have the time.

Our local Seniors has dancing one day a week a everyone has a wonderful time with great old time dancing music and every so often they travel around to visit other dancing groups all over the state.

There is so much to do and so little time.

Maybe join CMCA and buy a Motor Home they have a Solo Chapter that is always travelling to some place new.

Have you posted in the solo sub forum of this forum I'm sure there are many members there who have some wonderful ideas for those that are travelling solo.

Cheers

David

Putting hand up and waving here***

I started it when we decided to buy our caravan....so its from the beginning, what we went through to get it. Then what we are doing about the house until its sold, then the eventual journey we will take. I am doing a diary first, then transferring it onto a blog with pictures, when I get that up and running, so I can show my children and grandchildren where we are and where we have been.

Plus its great to go over the memories of it all.

This post caught my eye so I had a look at your scrapbook ....  Fantastic .....  Just wish that I had done something similar when I retired in1998.

It must give you much pleasure.  I'm certain that 'Millions' of others like me will enjoy it also.  Keep up the good work.

Paul (My Van) ... My strong advice is to take the lead and start your own Scrapbook ...

Gary has his blog and another blog is from Yeoeleven, all fascinating stuff, and especially some of the photos. My armchair travels consist looking at places others have been and deciding where to go myself.

There is also a software program called Nomads Notes which you can input info for your own use, fuel consumption, daily diary etc.etc. Handy program but not a blog.

That's if you are a traveller of course.

I think we should ask Gary to rename his blog Gary's Millions.Lol

Cheers

Trevor

As Trevor said Paul, read the blogs of others.  That will give you ideas of which way for you to go about recording your travels once you start.

Haven't read Garys' yet, but John [Yeoeleven] has hardly had a dull moment from when he started a couple of years ago.  I think is the longest period he's had of staying in one place, and that's only because he's switching vehicles.   Been very busy the last few weeks doing the Coaster up, before getting it Roadworthied tomorrow.

Cheers,

Sheba.

Hi  Paul  ..

Another thought explosion......

Be VERY careful about what you put on a publicly available blog / profile or whatever  ......

It might reveal more about yourself than you might want to be generaly known about you and those that you care about.    And often can't be taken back after it's posted.

I love scrapbooking and make cards too :) I have been taking snaps of our MH for pages i plan to make next, in fact. I will do pages about our new purchase, excitement, feelings of freedom, ability to have a holiday in the back yard even before we get to take it on the road etc. Once we start traveling around, I will add thoughts, highlights and lowlights, pics of memorable places/people/meals/animals/events/nature/anything that fascinates me. When I make a scrapbook, I make it my own. Anything I want goes int he album, including tickets to places I go, menus, brochures, newspaper articles, anything that will be flattish enough so that I can still close the album. Lol!

Which brings me to my next point. Taking supplies with you to make a scrapbook can get heavy and bulky, though I do know how to pack light with my craft having been away on crops before. Ideally, I would plan my pages before my trip, then take what I need to scrap those pages on the trip, while taking photos for the next section of the album.

Another thing you might like is learning how to make a digital scrapbook, so you only need to have your laptop and camera with you. I have a program that is fairly easy to get used to called My Digital Studio. (I'm a demonstrator for Stampin' Up! so I hope it is OK to put a link to the software here? If not, PM me and I will send you the link in case the link needs to be moderated out here).

At the moment you can download My Digital Studio for a free trial, but even the whole program is pretty inexpensive (around $25). You can make your pages online and leave them online stored where you want them on your hard drive, or you can print them out when you get to a time and space where you want to do that. You can also print off embellishments so your digi pages don't have to be 'flat' if you prefer a more 3d look.

I have lots more I can tell you about scrapbooking so do post some more questions whenever you like :)

Hi My van,
I'm a tragic scrapaholic, have been long before we started to travel. I take minamal tools with me and take heaps of pics and cull what i dont want so the best go in the albums (although on saying that I have used a few not so good but as a scraper thats my choice). Journal on your pages about the places in the photos and the poeple you meet and the caravan parks some are funny some are not, the dramas the fun the people.
Things to remember : Copy your photos to a USB stick incase something happens to your computer (data loss, theft.)
: KIS (Keep It Simple).
: The photos are more important than to much decoration.
: Journal each page.
: If you have the room in your van take a printer, I use it for headings and journaling, also useful for unrelated stuff re: reicpts etc.
: Do it your way. your the one who has to look at it after its done.
: And above all HAVE FUN.
: And dont worry about having some one to pass it on to, do it for YOU and trust me people out there in the caravaning travel world will love to have a look at where
you have been and what you have seen, specialy when you find another scraper.
Well i could go on forever,
Happy scrapping,
Lyn.
contact me if you want to know more.
