insurance,

Not sure what the payout thing was, or the disagreement...which "might" affect any insurance company, but depends what it was about.

I have my caravan insured with my Credit Union, I use them for all our insurances as its easier to know where they are. Plus our Credit Union does discounts on over 55's. Les is 68, and I am 51 but I still get the discount because I'm with him lol

Apia is another for older people and retiree's. There are heaps, its just a matter of finding one that covers you for what you want.

Edited to add: I dont know of any insurance company that will cover a home made non professional canopy. The insurance company want to know that it was built to specifications for safety...which of course no one will say it is other than you. They are only covering their own back by refusing this. It needs to comply with quite a lot of safety specs...

confusethis is my first time on this gn forum so pls bear with me if i am a bit slow, firstly, i have been ret. since 2006 since then i have been teaching myself

computer skills( trial & error style with a little bit of help now & then)(wifey).secondly, i have built myself an enclosed type canopy camper(self con.) & recently i

had disagreements with my ins. re. claims, they won't budge(pay up) now my ins is about to expire soon(2mths.) can anyone put me onto an ins. that is

a bit more understanding of retiree's, after all we pay into them long enough.

p.s. when i get this sorted then i can get out there.  thank you all. lennyconfuse

re Insurance disagreements. I think one of the problems is Market value and Agreed value, all of our vehicle type insurances are Agreed value, just recently have changed our Boat Insurance company, the boat is over 20 years old but in as new condition since its always been uncover and we have not used it alot. Insured for $8500, but just recently realised it was at Market value, so virtually they could maybe give me only $4500 if its stolen even though my premium is to cover an $8500 loss.

I will need to have the boat valued at $8500 which will last for 2 years, then get another valuation.

To me its reasonable for the insurance company to do this, am just annoyed that I was not told about it, becasue it could have been done during the Boat/Trailer checkout required by the Insurance company prior to them accepting my business.

PS I would consider changing over to another insurance company B4 expiry as one of the questions some insurance companies ask is have you ever been Turned down/rejected ( or similar) by another Insurance company. ie problems if your current company may not want to re insure you. They also ask about claims/accidents.

Re other insurance comapanies for retiree's I would try APIA

h'lo gary
they did not want to cover my canopy b'cause it is "after market" also 'cause it was built by me(not professional)it is probably stronger than a pro. one anyway.

Take care if you decide on APIA, in that they say they are all for Seniors, it is all just marketing  hype ,you can usually get a better deal with one of the other major insurance companies.

Cheers

David

Welcome to the forum........ We went with Ken Tame - best price out of all the ones we tried, even with the added cost of CMCA membership.

I have a tinnie that is about the same as yours, insured with Club Marine up till the last year when they wanted me to take it to an assessor to see what it was worth.  Contacted one of only a few assessors that they recommended and the survey charge was more that the insurance and the survey was only good for two years then it all starts again  Bit of a rip off for a boat insured with them since new never had a claim  always locked in the shed  and only covered for $8500  Went NRMA and got it cheaper and no survey needed.  Seems some only want to insure new boats or anything up to 5 years old

Hi Wombat.
Is your NRMA Insurance for Market Value or Agreed Value?
Understand that Club Mariine will accept the company that services my outboards and sell boats/outboards to carry out the valuation for Insurance.

Ken Tame Insurance with insurance that covers Motorhomes, Tugs and Caravans, Campervans and 5vers required valuations every 2 years for agreed value insurance, which to me seems fair( but you must be a member or associate member of the CMCA to get this insurance cover).

Best to just type into google 'insurance quotes'and a heap of different insurance companies names will come up.Apia was one of the dearest insurances in a recent survey undertaken by choice mag .It is really all a marketing ploy, that they are for seniours, insurance companies are not for anyones interest but them self.Thats why one needs to read the fine print .

I have all my insurances with GIO all with agreed value and the van is 16 years old and have never been asked for a valuation and the van is still insured for the price I paid for it when new, the same applies to a boat which is now 12 years old

Cheers

David

We are with GIO also, changed to them after having a undoing with a bull in N/T a few years back ,and the insurance companie we were with expecting us to sit pat for two weeks until their asseccor was back up in that area ,to look at the damage before we could have the damage repaired. We ended up paying to have the damage repaired from our own pocket...And changed all of our insurance over to GIO soon after. To add insult to the way we were treated from the insurance company we were with ,they rang us and emailed us wanting to know the reason we had changed to another insurance company.

I have my car and motorhome insured with ken tame, they were hundreds and hundreds cheaper than any one else, have only heard good things about them, but i know they have recently been bought up by a bigger firm.
