My original comment was about E. McGuire but you seem to have a selective approach to the post, and the addendum was that players sometimes just have to suck it up and get on with the game.

Without contrary evidence I stand by what I posted,  I am quite happy to be proven wrong, and I agree there is no place for racial vilification in sport, at whatever level.  But if a player gets so upset about that how would he go with normal sledging in a match?

I played enough football of a reasonable standard in my younger days and if you got upset about barracking from the sideline perhaps you shouldn't have been there.

You have to remember that the most vociferous supporters are invariably those who have never been there done that and live vicariously through their football team.

You see it after a match the spectators take It to heart as though it's a war but players shake hands walk off and have a beer together.

Get over it:  It's a game

Just a thought ... red headed people are called Rangas (orang-utans) ... including our PM. Is this worthy of huge media carryon - racist or otherwise. In fact media have regularly referred to PM as "the ranga".

And as a dyed in the wool Collingwood supporter, how upset should I become when Collingwood supporters are universally seen and referred to as "toothless bogans". I do not fit that image but just have to grin and let it go over my head.

The rules of 'politically correct' are applied when it suits ... just listen to all comedians who push PC to its very limits ... and jibes will always be there.

I remember the line from the movie Bodyline .... The English captain had been called a bastard by one of the Aussie cricketers and he approached the Aussie captain for an apology. The Aussie caption replied, looking at this team, "OK, which one of you bastards called this bastard a bastard?" Puts it perspective I thought.

And the older one ... who called the cook a bastard? Reply - who called the bastard a cook!

I do not tolerate racism when it raises its ugly head, but like everything in our complicated, complex, often mixed up world - ya gotta let circumstances determine the response.
