Locked out

Hi, i managed to leave the keys in my old Windsor poptop and of course the door locked with them inside. Dumb i know, is there an easy way to get the door open or is drastic action like break a window? I'm sure someone here will have done the same and will have a good answer, Thanks.

The pop top I had you could remove the fly screens, if yours is the same remove the fly screen undo your zipper and climb in, save breaking a window or wrecking your door, that's the screens on the pop up section.

Undoing your zipper sounds a bit drastic.

Meanwhile, my comment will be of no help at all, Sheppo, but the door on my slide-on needs a key to lock/unlock it from the outside so it's no biggie if I leave the keys inside. I do have a spare set, though. I keep the main set in one pocket, and the spare in the other. That's saved me a few times when I've accidentally locked the keys in the car.

Wow! That's clever. So there are pluses in having a poptop. The old York was hard top and we had to take the window out twice!

What about  having a spare key cut.

Wrap it in "Aluminium Foil"

Wire it on underneath the van  (use copper wire) in a protected area.   Somwhere easy to get at but not visible to anyone.

Or buy a Magnetic Key Box and place that under the van.    I would wire that on as well.

We have  spare car keys wired under each car.  And a full set of Van keys under the Avan.   Door, Boot, Side Cabinet, and Jerry can Lock.

If your door lock is one of those with a toothed wheel as its striker, there are two types available. With the older ones you can rotate the toothed wheel when the snib on the inside is in the lock position. With the newer ones the wheel will not rotate when you snib the lock.

You can replace just tie inner part of the lock cheaply - http://caravansplus.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=245

Why not leave a spare set of caravan keys in your vehicle glovebox

One for the wizz bangs. Remote key entry. Can't lock without key. However do worry about losing while out and about.

Ftizy? Your penance is one Our Father and three Hail Marys. Now go to your room.

Most early caravan locks can be picked quite easily but not everyone carries a set of lockpicks in their pocket. From what I have noticed the later vans now use much better quality locks. All you need is a door key wired somewhere under van or vehicle and a spare for all other keys hidden away inside vehicle. Magnetic key holders do not hold on very well on rough roads I would definalty recomend wire. Even vehicles with keyless entry have a key that will open door only, check vehicle handbook. Transponder and electronic keys are expensive but a spare again hidden in vehicle in remote areas would be a dam good investment.
