Maybe....... if the gas bottle is inside the van.
I had a Toyota with the gas bottle in a cupboard and the gas guy disconnected my fridge and stove. New laws (NSW pre 2009) in place for safety, all gas bottles should be carried on the outside.
The changes only happen when the vans go in with something wrong or for a service.
Means there are a lot of unsafe vans out there!

As far as I'm aware, it's against the law to carry a gas bottle inside. Why not get it mounted on the drawbar Graeme.

Is the boot sealed Kantiki? There was a notice on here awhile ago where a couple got sick from unknpowingly breathing in fumes while in bed. They were very sick for quite a while and doctors couldn't figure out why.

I think that was about a battery sulphating under the bed that made them sick.

Ask him to show you a copy of that law Graeme.   Don't think he'll be able to.   Check out how many Pop-tops there are for sale on Gum-tree alone, that are advertised with 3-way Fridges.  If what he says is true, how can they sell them that way ?

Then got to a different Tradie.

Cheers,

Sheba.

I think a later post shows the gas bottle on the "A" frame.

My son has a Plumbing & Gas fit business, often doing certificates for Van Sales yards.

He has no knowledge of any regulation changes regarding Pop Tops, but that's in Qld.

He did say however that most caravans could fail because of non compliant venting.  Most fridge installations do not have a gas (leak) vent below floor level.  Could be easily fixed by drilling a hole through the floor of the fridge enclosure.

He does however often condem out of date & wrong rating (4) gas bottles.  I end up with lots of half empty gas bottles for the BBQ .. from the dealers who just want to get rid of them.  Swap them at Bunnings from time to time as they run out.  I try to pick out 'in date' (2)'s.

This law always confuses me when you read ...out side the van..isn't inside the boot classed as enclosed.? just like it is unlawful to carry a gas bottle inside of a vehicle...

If there are gas bottles in the boot the gas bottles should be partioned off from the rest of the boot and correctly vented, which in the case of LPG is a vent in the floor so in the event of a gas leak the gas flows out of the boot and doesn't build up, batteries in the boot should have a vent in the the top so any gas leak rises and and escapes out the top of the boot.
