Howdy, do you have a mac? if so try this. More details about your operating system and email programme would help. You have what seems to be a common problem and found this on goggle.

Before you start, check you have got the correct password for your email account(s), you need to open up Keychain Access, via Applications, then Utilities. Click Passwords (or All Items) on the left, and look for the email passwords (should start with mail.)Look for repeated entries for the same account. I have 5 email accounts, 2 of them had 3 passwords, and 1 had 2 passwords. The others had one password, and were working fine.

Now, just delete the oldest of the repeated passwords, so you are left with just one for each different email account, which being the most recent, should be the correct one.

Which e-mail program are you using ?  Has this just occured now or been happening for a while ? Only respond if other suggestions you have received do not work.

I have a very similar problem. Have tried all sorts to fix it, get the same msg as you through my yahoo account using Microsoft Outlook. Can recieve but not send. None of the fixes I tried worked so I just opened a Gmail account and that works fine, I think mine originated from a problem with outlook where I had a problem and could not access the data file. ran a repair program Stellar Phonix, fixed outlook but this problem popped up just after. have no Idea on how to fix it.

Try this:

I assume your e-mail account is xxxxxx@bigpond.com or xxxxx@bigpond.net.au.

If you are using the e-mail program that comes with Internet Explorer, you are using Outlook Express. You dont state which Windows program you are using. I am using Windows 7 with Windows Live e-mail program. Live is similar to Outlook Express, so lets go:

Open the program, in top left corner click the drop down Menu and click on Options. Your e-mail program will show. Highlight the e-mail address and click on Properties.

Page 1 is headed General: Under Name put the name Herbie or whatever you want to appear as the message sender.

Under Organisation, leave blank

Under Mail Account, put your complete e-mail address

Under reply address, leave blank

Put a tick in the box Include this account when receiving mail or synchronising

Tick no other boxes.

If you make changes or add any detail, click Apply then click OK

Page 2 is headed Servers: My incoming Mail server should read A POP 3 Server

Incoming Mail (POP#) should have.... mail.bigpond.com

Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP).... mail.bigpond.com

Incoming Mail Server:

E-Mail User Name: xxxxx@bigpond.com or xxxx@bigpond.net.au

Password: Insert Password which will look like this .........

Tick box Remember Password

Tick no other boxes

If you make changes or add any detail, click Apply then click OK

Outgoing Mail Server:  Do not tick any boxes

Page 3 is headed Security:  Touch nothing on this page

Page 4 is headed Advanced: Under Outgoing Mail (SMTP) 25 should be in the box

Incoming Mail (POP3) 110 should be in box

Touch nothing else.

Click on Apply then click OK

I hope you can follow that procedure. It works for Windows Live. Its a long time since I used Outlook Express but they are similar and Im sure the same procedure I have described will work for you. Let me know. Usually these problems occur because a tick has been put in or left out of a box or a word misspelt.

Ken.

Never used Outlook, so a bit of guess work here. It's part of Microsoft Office.  Suggest you check your version of Yahoo Messenger and mail. Make  sure you have the latest version. You can download these programs without uninstalling the earlier versions.  After you have downloaded and installed the latest version, delete the e-mail account from Outlook. Reboot your computer and install Yahoo Mail again. See if that helps.  What version of Outlook do you have ? The latest version is 2010. Versions earlier than 2007 may not accept Yahoo Mail.

Gmail and Yahoo Mail and Hotmail are not email programs that are installed on your computer, they are what is known as Web Mail and are accessed using a browser such as Internet Explorer or Google Chrome
The email program Outlook Express is installed on your computer and was installed as part of the Windows operating system, until Windows 7, these Windows email programs are used to access your mail, in your mail box at your Internet Service Provider [ISP]. These email programs can also be used to retrieve emails from your web email mail boxes you may be subscribed to.
Outlook is the email program that is mainly used by business and is capable of doing a lot more things than Outlook Express but is not usually needed by us Grey Nomads.
Until recently Outlook came in all versions of the Microsoft Office which is a suite of programs, but the program Outlook now is only supplied with the Business version of Office.
Cheers
David

True, Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo Mail and others are stand alone programs but can be added to Windows Live Mail and later versions of Outlook and Outlook Express.. No reason why Herbie cannot access mail thru the YM website but apparently he chooses to do it thru Outlook !

Hi Herbie

The bigpond code that you now have from Bigpond is your password for bigpond and every now and then that screen will pop up and ask for your password so dont lose it or you will have to go through all this again.
