RE: Wuruma Dam Qld Get together 3rd week in April

I will be going up through Ban Ban Springs, Gayndah, Mundubberah, Eidsvold, Ceratodus, turning off at Cynthia to Abercorn. Turning off there to the dam.. My estimate is about 170 ks.

Will do John.  Will check with the relevant Web-sites [we have 2 for Qld.] closer to my departure time, if nobody else gives an updated road report by then.

Be nice to finally get to one.

Cheers,

Sheba.

My girlfriend tried to talk me into still going, because she was dissapointed for me. Awww! If I'd thought about it earlier this week, I could have gone this week and be back by middle of next week for blood test and RBH appointment. As an aside, I'm using my smartphone for the forum for the first time. I think I'm getting very clever on it! Haha I'm at the sons, babysitting my granddaughter for the night.

Hi Everyone,

Bite the bullet time!

I popped my head up here at the forum many months ago just after my wife died but although I had a heap of very supportive replies I've never been strong enough to hitch the van and hit the road.

But this Wuruma Dam Get Together sounds a very good place to start - it's only 3 hours from where I live.

I won't be able to leave till the 23rd as I have my 9 year old granddaugher visiting for the first time all the way from Yass.

I have a Commodore wagon and a '79 Viscount so I hoping the way there is not for off roaders only.

Very excited (and nervous) about taking this step.

Looking forward to meeting some of you.

Peter

Mulawa - not for off roaders - most of those have on road vehicles I think. Go along - you will love it - GN meet ups are lots of fun - happy hours have been known to go all day!!!!! Lots of laughter. Enjoy!

Any coming from the south the road is better & far shorter (albeit unsealed) via Cynthia Range Rd than via Abercorn. In my opinion, those coming from the north are also better off coming down to the southern Waruma dam turnoff & then going as above. Toilets are flush (up the hill from the dam side campsites), drinking water is available from a tank at the picnic area further along the bitumen. Leaving due to family commitments tomorrow, should be back next weekend. Darrell&Sandra

It is great to see so many "newbies" or relative newbies, are going to this meet up - you will be hooked - and you will all meet some great people, and make new friends. Happy Wanderer is pretty easy to spot - her Hi-Ace is called Myrtle, and she has a GN sticker on the window - make yourself known to her - she will make you most welcome.

I won't be arriving till the 23rd which is the 4th week in April - do any GN's plan to stay this 2nd week?

I still plan to make the journey but am keen to meet some Forum members.

Peter

I may be able to head up after the Anzac Day 'long weekend'. I'm still waiting for one more appointment letter. When I know that date, I'll have a better picture of my time frame.

I only ever listen to the ABC radio anyway, so that's no problem Paul.   Bringing some DVD's  and a couple of books, so I'll be right.

Found "Opal Fever" Marj.  Got a movie as well, about life on the Gemfields which I'll bring if I can find it in time.  Colin Friels stars, and it was shot around Rubyvale/Sapphire.

Cheers,

Sheba.

Heading up on Tuesday till at least the Wednesday/ Thursday of the week after. Checked the calender, that would be 24th/25th. Maybe a bit longer if nothing interferes with my time out there in the playground.

I'm leaving Tuesday, but won't be there as long as you Marj.  Probably only 3 or 4 days, depending.  Be nice to finally meet some more GN's though.   See ya there.

Cheers,

Sheba.

They sound good Sheba. I won't bother bringing my TV if no reception. I like the quietness of camping by a lake or dam without something I have on at home all day. Have books and puzzles lots of time to chat.
