So none of use do work for a living during our lifetime and go on the dole instead or beg for food in the street and live a long and happy life

confuse

Sounds good, but a fact of life we have to work during our younger years to survive, also gives us a purpose, we all can't sit under a tree and pontificate....IMHO......wink smile

We come into this world with a Nappy and go out with a nappy so, let's start life at the older end and with all that knowledge, as we get younger life would be better. The best part of this would be when you are a baby, you get to start out again.

Yes the Dalai Lama is a knowledgable man in deed, I would love to meet and chat with him.

This topic has just reminded me of my experience chatting to a Buddhist Monk when in Wollongong NSW last year.

Thanks Rocky.

Gday...

Understand the sentiments, Vic, and up until 1988 I would have agreed with you. But in 1988 my 2 year old daughter was diagnosed with cancer and we spent the next two and half years fighting with her and for her.

Up until that time, I was focussed completely on career, advancement (more money) so I could "keep the family as they deserved to be kept". I learnt just how little importance "money/career/success/wealth" mattered in the scheme of things.

From that time on I have certainly not wasted opportunities or any monetary gain I have encountered - but I certainly learnt to live in the present and value life much more - I learnt to "do it now" rather than hoard it and miss out on life.

Interestingly, my daughter is now 26 this year, and she has achieved so much more in the last 24 years than I did in the 42 years before she was diagnosed.

My last 26years have been much more enjoyable - and now I am living for today even more so and the enjoyment, and sattisfaction gained, is not proportional to the funds I have available.

Cheers - and live for today and enjoy the future as it unfolds - John

Well said John, some times it takes a bit of a jolt to make us step back & reasses the future.

The past is something we can do nothing about, it is gone, the future is out there and really not a lot we can do about that either, so live for the now, that is why it is called the present, it is a gift.
I seen this and I think it just about says it all and maybe this is what being a GN is all about:-

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, Champagne is one hand, chocolates in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOOHOO, what a ride".
JUST LIVE

Rocky - how lovely to hear of your daughter's survival and triumph in life - you must be so proud of her.

To me, this nomadic lifestyle is living life for today - recently met a couple who really have not much at all in life, except each other. They travel in an old vehicle, with a tent and the bare basics. But they are out there, enjoying life today - just as much as the couple with the HUGE motorhome and all the comforts of home on the road with them (some of the comforts a lot of people don't even have in their home).

My philosophy in life that it can be taken at any time, so make sure you enjoy it while you have it.

My sentiments exactly, Jules. You can still enjoy the ball even if you're traveling in a pumpkin.

Thanks for telling us about your daughter John. A true wake up call.

Doug, I've met a couple of Buddist monks too. It's a wonderful calming experience just to spend a little time with them.

I'd like to see Julia Gillard's in about 30 years from now.

Beth - have you ever visited the Buddhist Temple in Underwood - it is open to the public, a truly serene place, and absolutely beautiful grounds and buildings.  The Dalai Lama is an amazing man - if you see him, he actually glimmers, seems to emit sparks - just wonderful!!

No, I keep saying I must go there, but keep forgetting. Totally agree about the Dalai Lama.
