WARNING DOES YOUR RV HAVE MOULD

If you have been experiencing this endless rain you might want to check inside your RV, we thought we were doing the right thing by leaving some windows open for ventelation and put the cover on it to protect the outside from the elements NO BAD MOVE I am in & out the caravan every day except for the last 2 days due to the rain went in this morning and luckly I am reactive to mould and their it was just starting on the cupboards near the door on further investigation found it in the microwave,on cupboard doors in the utensil .on the dogs dish, cans, plastic containers, camp oven bags, SHOCK HORROR FOR ME so immediately stripped the van ,  how you deal with MOULD is  All the hard stuff like knives etc can go in the dishwasher have to make a solution of 80% white vinegar and 20% water wash and wipe everything including the walls this damn moud breeds like wildfire, then dehumifiy or turn on the A/C to dry out the air.

THIS IS FACT my daughter owns a mould remediation company on the Gold Coast I called her in shock horror where I thought  I was doing it right was all wrong, so I've spent the morning investigating the van cleaning and running the A/C, she also said she would treat the van  with Ozone  for mummy  :) next time I'm on the coast. GOOOGLE www.amcozone.com.au and learn about mould

Happy travels

We alway's use a product called Damp Rid ..It eliminates musty odours caused by excess moisture.prevents mould and mildue stains. But if you already have milduw or mould you would need to clean every thing ,even if it has not got mould that you can see.Dry van every thing and then use this product. We use two one in bathroom and one sitting on shelf near the fridge. When crystals have completlely discoloured discard whole container and re new .We have never had mould or mildew in all the time we have been useing this product. We purchase product from s/ market /Bunning and that last time we brought from one of those cheapo shops. Years ago every one used charcoal to keep moisture from inside houses/ c/ vans .We have really bad humidity here in Qld where we are based at the moment and a lot of vans/ motor homes / busess have all had the start of muld building up , but we have had no such problem. One of the worst places for mould to hide is pillows and mattress  and doonas, we use a mattress protector and pillow protectors and wash them every few weeks .also leave bed unmade for a few hrs each week to air the mattress out from persperation and pop pillows out into the fresh air for awhile. After airing the bed and pillows we spray with Glen 20 disinfectant hospital grage.Maybe we are pedantic regarding these issues but working in health and saftey and inviro ...we have seen what mould can do to peoples health and well being .Another good tip is to always dry the shower ater every use with a old towel and hang the towel out side to day never leave it in the van to dry ,if posible hang towles out side to air after use not in side the van. When not useing van we leave the micro door open and clean fridge out with vinigar dry it well and leave the door open .Take all food stuff out of van and leave linen off the mattress. One of the worst things one can ever do is to leave a wet mat inside the van when travelling. Shoes are another place mould spawn loves to grow from.

Stain removal lady Shannon Lush swears by Oil of cloves. Just a small amount in 1lt of water and spray it on. Kills the mould spores. Must get some.

I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion, however, the home remedies really don't effectively work this is scientificly proven if you doubt my information please do yourself a favour and check out the web site www.amcozone.com.au I have personally been affected by mould And my daughter has taken her case through the courts and won, mould is not something to take lightly the science labs all say the only thing that will kill mould spores is 80/20% white vinegar and water and Ozone, just trying to spread the healthy word and save people from loosing valuable items and trust me mould will destroy your stuff and leave you with long term health problems if you let it get a hold. BELIEVE IT OR NOT !!

Mix a quarter teaspoon of Oil of Cloves (no more) per litre of water, put it in a spray bottle, lightly mist on. Leave for 20 minutes and wipe off.  Spray again and leave.  It will take 24-48 hours for the mould spores to dry and drop off.

IMHO (and others) wink

I suggest you DON"T put the cover on again. You need to circulate the air.

hello, How do you dehumidify? and when you turned on the airconditioner was it cold and did you have the van open for ventilation or was it closed up? We haven't got mould in our van but it's good to keep a treatment in mind. Thanks for sharing.

We also leave a damp rid in the van and even after all the wet weather in Toowoomba over the last few weeks we have no mildew or mould growing.
Re the use of ozone, check this NSW government health dept factsheet:

PLEASE..never use Ozone in a caravan it is too confide of an area to be used in that kind of way.The only time if one needs to use it is up high and wear protective gear. A lot of work places have out lawed the use of it , due to health risk's .
