Upper Colo River Reserve

Anybody got any idea what it's like around the Upper Colo Reserve? Supposed to go there next week but the way the weather has been I think it will be fairly soggy. Thanks.

Where is it Chris. If Qld I doubt if any reserve would be dry enough to camp.

Out from Windsor NSW up the Putty Road. The camper trailer group haven't been notified yet that we can't camp but I was just wondering if anybody had any knowledge of what the conditions were like.

I know the Newell between Moree and Boggabilla was closed today because of flooding, so there must be quite a lot of flooding down there.

Lovely spot with showers and toilets on the banks of the Colo river. Turnoff at the servo at Colo heights, dirt road, gates close at night. Charge for camping.Boggy after rain. Bill

Taree's getting a bucketful at the mo and I hear Sydney is getting showers this week and again the week after. Must be hell for campers up and down the east coast.

Hi Chris,
Looking at the Hawkesbury council webb site it states the upper colo road is open.Iwould give the council a ring next week to check if the reserve is open( 45604444 ).
They have had plenty of rain up there and have had minor flooding.

Thanks Jeff. Our camper trailer hosts for the weekend are usually in close touch with the council and let us know if we can or can't camp. I was just querying if anybody down that way knew what it was like.

Chris

Hi Chris,

Hard to know how affected the Colo is. What happens generally the water comes down the Colo River when it is raining and can back up getting into the Hawkesbury River if it is high. The Hawkesbury River was just under North Richmond Bridge on Saturday. Once the water stops coming from the dam it seems to lower the river fairly quickly.

Sadly I've never been into the campground, but I think I read somewhere that it might be a little difficult for caravans on the fairly slim dirt road into the ground but 2 wheel drives are ok. I think it was on the Campertrailers website a couple of years ago.

I hope the weather doesn't spoil the weekend.

I spent Thurs - Mon at the upper Colo Reserve and it was beautiful. Even the cold showers were pleasant enough and it didn't rain which was the best part. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

No because the road is too narrow in a lot of places for anyone to either pass or have to  back up. Ring Hawkesbury Council and they will tell you the length allowed. Camper trailers are okay and we had a couple of people with small caravans but that was all. It's a beautiful spot though and only $6.50 / night I think it was if you book through the council and $10 / night if you just lob in and book with the ranger.
