Boredom when it's raining

G'day yawl. A while back, somebody asked for suggestions as to how to keep one's self amused in a caravan during inclement weather. I suggested starting a new hobby - ships in a bottle, model airplaines, something that didn't require electricity. There are girls who do crocheting and patch-work quilts. Then I got the idea of buying old pocket watches and fixing them. Guess what?

If i am at the beach I go for a beachwalk in the rain... great fun.  take photos ..... also great fun. buy some hot chips ..... yummy then have a lovely hot shower, then snuggle up in bed and watch the telly. i love rainy days. last year it rained for an entire week while we were in the van. you only live once - rain or shine - go out in it and enjoy.

Thats easier in Qld where the rain is warm Rocket! We have been for beach walks in foul weather just to see the local surf pounding in, its exhilarating, although we end up shivering ... great to get home for a nice hot cuppa and shower.

That brings up a point. When you order things like Camps 7 or anything else from the net, and you're free camping, what mailing address do you use? Or do you wait till you get to a town and buy stuff at shops?

I'm presuming from the photo, the Guess what is. He has no idea how to put them back together again.

Gary, a lot of nomads I know have had mail addressed to the nearest Aus Post to be held for them. It seems to work well.

Boredom waiting, when it's raining and affecting your travels.
I'm supposed to be in Karratha doing a job right now, but Rusty put paid to that. The job might happen on Tuesday, but there's another monsoonal low head towards Oz from the Indian ocean which is predicted to dump a heap more rain on the west coast.
So I'm packing up my bat and ball and going home. I've been stuck in WA for 2 weeks waiting for this job.
Things will be quiet in relation to heavy haulage in Qld, NSW and WA because of all the rain, storms and floods.

You are certainly all over the place CC. Who would want to live up there. My daughter's sis-in-law and bro-in-law are moving there from Echuca in two weeks. He is taking over as 2ic at the Karratha Woolworths/Safeway. Not somewhere I would want to live all year around. Maybe a holiday.
Go home CC and put your feet up.

Well, sorry chaps. I thought it was obvious. I got the idea to fix pocket watches, right? That takes a bag of assorted spare parts, right? So I bought a bag on eBay for $30. That's why I took the pic. Now all I need to do is check op shops and garage sales on my travels for old broken pocket watches... and then wait for a rainy day.

Meanwhile, I know a woman who moved from Melbourne to Derby just outside Broome and absolutely loves it there. She's an avid photographer and spends a lot of time out on the mudflats and Kimberley. Here's her page on Red Bubble.

Gday...

My son fixes old computers - the ones that the 'normal' shops tell the owners "Nah, it's too old, throw it away and here's a new one for $X,XXX". Makes a quid but its a slow  business

He buys a lot of his old parts from eBay - it is incredible what is on there. However, he once bought a "job lot" of old pooter parts for a bid of $25 - they filled an 8x6 trailer with a cage.

Not surprisingly, at least half of the parts were unworkable when he tested them, no and now four years down the track he still has a huge supply of stuff that he will probably never use.

Thankfully, watch parts are a little more 'storable' than computer bits (and not as heavy) so ya can travel with em in the van - but I hope ya have a better 'hit rate' with usable bits

Cheers - John

I always like the idea of playing games when its 'all over' re outside.

How about jigsaws? (ie of the puzzle variety; not the shedtool).... they always seem to work well and just need a rollup jigsaw mat, a table and a light.

With company, chess might provide an answer.

Or Tantrix? confuse

Tantrix? Never heard of that - unless it is a spelling mistake and we are talking about tantric s*x - but after that there's surely still an awful lot of rainy day still to fillwink
