Reversing Camera's

Hi guys, try this site for Polaris. They have various versions and are a big maunufacturer,I used to have a Toyota Prius and it was the supplier of the in dash GPS which was really good.

They supply the GPS for the new Camry as well.

Various types and mounting methods, sure to find something to suit.

I expect others will have other sites and other options, this is just one I have first hand knowledge of.

http://www.polarisgps.com.au/

Hope you find something to suit.

Cheers

Trevor

PS Try products, then go to drop down menu.....Universal, then click on optional extras and there is a version designed for the Tug and Van.Will show what's behind when towing and also for reversing.

For Wombat, the Polaris version does say to monitor what is behind you when driving,so I am sure it is designed to be on all the time.

I know my Prius had the GPS on all the time and it would be basically the same screen.

I run a dash mounted monitor with three cameras.

The monitor can run full time as its desighned as a DVD screen with facility for two cameras via RCA plugs including camera audio.

The third camera is connected to the mini usb supplied lead for the use of a DVD player. This unit has three source screens, using  one at the time.

Camera 1= tug

Camera 2= van

Camera 3= towbar for connecting up van.

Just be carefull with the cameras as the cheapies will not handle full time running / powered up.

I have each camera on seperate switches, on/off as required.

I used a cheapie for the towbar, but used the heavy duty truck/bus units for the constant running, these also include infra red for night vision with no fish eye, & very happy with them. They were supplied by Jaycar. The cheapie from ebay & monitor is a Axis, from Jaycar.

We had the 2 cameras put in nearly 12 months ago when we got our new van.  To have the 2 cameras we had to go with a screen mounted on the dash even though we would have preferred the rear view mirror one.  In this time we have broken the mounting once and had it replaced under warrantee. Also didn't really want to have to position lead right around roof to come down on rear view.  We have also had to repair a couple of incidents with the connector wire from the van to the car.  Otherwise, we really like having it.  Saves a lot of angst when reversing both with and without the van.

Cheers.

Hi
I am about to fit a rear camera to my 2009 Pathfinder and an extra camera for the van. Only a cheap int but just wondering if the on dash monitor is really designed to be on full time through the accessories wiring so I can use the van camera as my rear vision mirror to monitor traffic behind my rig.

Any thoughts welcome

Do a search and you will get heaps of info......

I have an Aldi rear view camera ($99). The monitor slips over the rear vision mirror when required. I have wired it via the tail lights which allows it to be on all the time, and was extremely easy to fit. The monitor will take an additional camera (2 avi inputs) which you can buy from ebay, jaycar etc. quiet cheaply.

Cheers,

Patto.

Back in 2006 we purchased the Polaris Caravan kit and had the camera installed as the van was built. I wired the vehicle camera and screen myself. At that time one of the screens offered was one that could hang from the vehicle roof.

This suited me as I could attach it to my roof mounted CB/UHF radio pod such that it hung down over half of my internal rear view mirror. This part of my internal mirror is somewhat blocked by the permanently installed Engel Fridge in the rear of the Patrol.

The vehicle camera is wired to the accessories, so it is always on and acts as my internal rear view mirror. The vehicle camera is mounted high on one of the rear doors so it has a clear view of the road behind, and still gives me a good view when hitching up though a lower mounting would have given me a perfect view when hitching up.

My Polaris Caravan Kit is what is shown on their website, http://www.polarisrearvision.com.au/, as CV-10 with camera B on the van. This camera tends to be a little fish eye in that you see thing that are close but vehicles in the distance are not that clear.

Overall we have been quite happy with the Polaris system not having had any problems.

I have one from Jaycar with a dash monitor and have it on all the time.  Had to replace the monitor on the last trip, but the new one seems to be ok so far. I can't see what is directly behind me with the side mirrors and the camera is brilliant for this.  Also all trees, power poles and rubbish bins around the country feel a lot safer now that I know exactly where they are behind me.  Don't know how I managed without it.

Cheers!

Chris

Hi guys - I have a rear vision mounted rear view camera - only one is connected at the moment but there is provision for a second to be connected.  Got it at TJM. Cheers, Helen

We have a screen in the sun visor and love it. Just flick it down reverse and flick up. We have a camera on the 4x drive and van so it makes reversing easy and can see what is behind.g
The system is called a audio options
Best thing we purchased.
