Car Rego

We decided to check out the rego cost for our car here in W.A. other people in this park pay a lot less for W.A rego, we paid $630 for a year with the pension discount for Qld, and it cost us $260 yesterday for a year in W.A. with pension discount. Apparently it has recently changed for people on the max rate for Carer Pension & Payment, so i gave in a now have W,A. plates, not going to change the van over theres not much difference in the rate.

If you can provide an address in W. A., leave the rego in that State... I have a son in Esperance. Did you have to get a roadworthy certificate ? I could use his address. I pay $700.00 in Tassie with no discount coz I get discount on another car I own.

Here in NSW each pensioner with age pension card gets one free rego per year, looks like NSW has one thing at least in its favour.

When people quote "free rego in NSW for pensioners" and "$260 a year in WA with pensioner discount" do these figures include CTP (compulsory third party insurance)?
In Queensland the rego MUST include the CTP figure.

Just renewed my 2004 Suzuki Jimny for 12 months in WA. The rego includes third party insurance cover.

Concession $315.95

Standard $401.55

For a pensioner the Licence Fee is roughly 30% of the standard rate, but you pay the same rate for the following :

Insurance
GST on Insurance
Stamp Duty on Insurance
Recording Fee

If a pensioner gets free rego in NSW, do they pay for a greenslip ???

It is only the rego that is free greenslip is extra and that varies according to a number of factors usually at least $350 and up drivers license is free and your partner if on the pension can get caravan or car rego and license free.

Hi we had to provide proof we have had the car for 3 years (previous) rego slips, plus letter from C'link to say hubby is on max carer pension & payment, only had to pay ctp plus stamp duty etc, and we have a son here in perth and all our mail goes there, it was just so easy.

do you need to have your drivers licence at the same address? Also Insurance in the same state? I find this very confusing as when staying interstate for any time you are expected to change everything over, even if you are living in a van and have a residence in NSW.

I may be wrong but I have been led to believe that unless you are taking permanent residency in another state, there is no need to change rego, insurance, or drivers licence. I may be wrong and I hope someone else may be able to shed light on this subject. Hope this may help?.....Alan the Mongrel

Your are requied to change every thing over after three month,s of living in another starte .It is some thing the goverment need to look into as a lot of people on the road  move around so often all they would be doing is changing in some cases back and forth continually. As us that are still working and travellling ,can never tell from one month to the next where or what state we could be in..I  believe inter state truck driver,s have a national licence, some one else may be more up to date with that rule other than me on that .I do not know if the national licence still allows the truck driver to use it if not driving a truck , or he has to have two licences one when driving the truck and one for when say driving his car towing a van or what ever......Buy the way it dosn:t stop at licences medi bank, electrol roll, banking details ,and ambulance cover is an issue, if in private cover,as some covers do not cover out of the state and some do .
