New experience and how to do it with a van

Would love to do a week or so on the Hawkesbury with the kids  & family but too far from Bris away from school hols.

Have been talking about it for years.  Was even a Honeymoon option in 1967!  We went to Cairns in the old FE instead.

Son has had houseboat hols with his in laws in Lower Moreton Bay & loved it too.

On my bucket list for now.

Just spent the last week or so on a houseboat on the Murray.  Always wanted to do it, had the chance and did it.  Next time, it will be on the Hawkesbury where I have always wanted to do it.

Only problem is that how can I get a van the will do both, road and water?

Seriously had a ball.

Houseboating is the most relaxing holiday you can get! I love it the river is so different when you are ON it instead of onshore looking at it.

Some friends and I spent a weekend on a houseboat on the Hawksbury some years back and had a fantastic time. I also did the Halvorson cruiser thing on the Hawkesbury with a mate. Definitely a great way to spend a week or weekend.

I saw a boat on trailer very similar to that one above just yesterday at Glenrowan maccas. I wondered if it was used as a van as well as a boat. Great idea. It looked to have all that you needed.

The front folds up for travel - looks just like a van then.

We did have our honeymoon on the Hawkesbury in 1966 at Cottage Point staying at one of the Windybank cottages.  Years before that we used to stay in one of their REAL houseboats - basically a house plunked on top of a pontoon and tethered about 20 metres from the shore in Cowan Creek. No motor, electricity or running water but great fishing. You rowed a skiff to the shop at Cottage Point for supplies.

I have spent time in a house boat,

A fantastic way to spend a week or two,

Also good to get out of the bus/van and enjoy a different experience.

Will be doing it this year.

Not the same on your own but still nice experience.

Regards
Brian

We've had two houseboat holidays on the Murray. Both great experiences. So we decided we wanted to do a canal boat while in England in 2009. It took two days for me to get the nerves under control so I could finally enjoy it. Sooo soooo different to the Murray.
