Hema maps app 4wd is it good

Are there anyusers of the HEMA Maps apps for the iPod / iPhone / iPad? Is it worth the $149 in at Apple app store. I do not have a GPS and use google maps, whereis on the phone, iPad?

I did look at buying the Hema maps and run it on the laptop but being Topographic maps it wouldn't be like using a GPS where you can punch in a destination.Just like a normal map but on the screen.

I will be checking further online to see if there is a setup where you can use the maps and have a GPS capability as well.Need to research that further.

There appears to be a company called Memorymap that gives out lots of info re iPhones/iPads and android devices with a free app for them.Worth a look.

Lots of info and different ways of going the Hema map route.

PS I have just looked at the memorymap app for iPad/iPhone from iTunes which gives you free access to Hema Maps 1:25000 Australia and NZ.

I was looking at buying a decent set of Hema maps, the electronic type and using a tablet/iPad or my laptop to use them.

The maps are terrific of course but it depends if you had to buy the iPad/tablet to use them. My own view is that the maps are about as good as you get but it's the size of the screen that you are looking at them on that really matters.

It would then be just as economical to buy the Hema GPS with about a six inch screen ready loaded with the full set if you had to buy the device to look at them on.

I am sure there will be someone on here who has them on their iPhone who will let you know more.

The iPad I have is great to view as it has a large screen and is 3G so has the gps inbuilt. The Hema GPS around $600 seems a little expensive, but I had not thought of it. Good idea though.

Yes there are good. If you do a google search, you'll find you dont have to pay any money for them if you know how to load the file ;)

Some people also suggest the Mud Map HD is better, as you get closer with more detail.
