I did post this in tech section and will post here too. While not in use is it best to have pop top up or down and why please? I have had differing opinions.
I store my van in a carport sometimes with top up and sometimes down and over the last 16 years it doesn't seem to matter either way. Have replaced the struts once in this time. Cheers David
Unfortunately ours has not been in use much lately . I've left the pop-top down mostly but occasionally raise it, open the awning (and dry off the accumulated wetness before it gets mouldy) air it out for a few days, charge the batteries, check everythings ok then shut it up again. I think the vinyl pop-top skirt thingy might not last too long if left open permanently in the open. Thinking of getting a cover for it.
Thanks all, that all makes sense to me. Some folk have said its better to leave up but I assumed it would weather far more that way. Thanks again. Tess
Hi Tess. If you rarely put the top up when you are camping, there's not much point in putting it up when storing. Got me thinking though. Maybe every now and then pop it up for airing on a warm sunny day.
Up or down doesn't really matter, but the action of movement does assist in keeping the gas strut seals moist to help prevent gas leakage over time. So do the exercise occassionally to save replacements.
