Australian Flies watch your hands!

Cedar and eucalyptus in a carrier cream, works well. Try naturopaths or health food shops -

Have you noticed that as soon as both hands are occupied (rolling a cigarette, pouring a drink or anything else involving two hands) the Australian Fly will hit an eye, ear or nostril, or both of each, simultaneously, to suck out any moisture.

Aaaargggh!!!

Current remedy while working in orchards in Cobram, Victoria, is a fly net which makes me look like a bloody beekeeper. Any other suggestions for getting rid of the irritating little buggers?

Andy

There is a 'Horse and Rider' fly repellant sold at good horse places - apparently it works well

Once you have had a couple of flies up your nose and out your mouth, that fly net will become your best friend !!!

 Natures Botanical;

Rosemary & cedarwood oils in a natural cream.

Simmons & Co. Pty Ltd

1605 Main Rd,

Toongabbie. Vic 3856.

Available from rural produce outlets.

Works like a dream, only need small dabs on skin, not smothered with it. does not irritate.

Also smells nice. Have used it in the outback & NT.

JC.

One of my best memories of crossing the Simpson desert is watching my partner wearing a fly veil, trying to eat his lunch... he ended up with flies trapped on the inside of the veil and sandwich filling on the veil itself.

Theres not much you can do about keeping them out of your eyes except wear that veil, but you can seriously reduce their numbers by using the "odorless" aerogard. Works for us!

I was wondering if a portable trampoline might be handy when you're eating a sandwich.

Another vote for Natures Botanical, Rosemary & Cedarwood.

We purchase it in a Roll-on container from our local Horseland store.

I have the Nature's Botanicals roll on ball type thingy and cover my beard, nose and hat and I smell gorgeous. Unfortunately the flies think so too. The trampoline sounds fun but may be frowned on by my employer. The net is working so far but is hard to smoke with though the smoke deters them quite well. Currently smoking hard out! Anyone ever tried the hat with corks on strings around it?
