You don't have too much choice, it's up you have to go, as long as you take your time, it's a good drive, up through Glocester is a great drive, beautiful country.
Kevin.
Unfortunately most definitely doesn't meet the "without too much climbing" criterion. I regularly drive that route and do agree it's a great drive and very beatiful country.
Whereabouts in the New England are you intending to go to?

Via Raymond Terrace and East Maitland. Anything else will involve much climbing. If planning to go in the immediate future other roads may also be flood damaged.

Thanks for that Guru, yes I guessed that may be the best highway choice. Kevin I have done the drive over the top through Dunngowen to Tamworth but not with a 22ft van behind. Jim we are slowly making our way through Tamworth then Gunnedah and on to Dubbo
Highway definitely best option for you. The Gloucester route would be to pick up Thunderbolts Way but this is even less relevant as you're not heading for Uralla/Armidale but further west.
You can cut across from Raymond Terrace to East Maitland without going down to Hexham.
Sorry, didn't realise you had that big a van, I used to travel that way with my 14' van with no problems but with a lot bigger van, I understand your problem, the New England is probably your easiest option.
