Glad you're still with us Milo.   I was starting to wonder how you are.  Any idea of what it might be ?  I have to go see my Dr. tomorrow.

Just hope I get north-side again before the river comes up in the afternoon.

Good luck Milo.

Cheers,

Sheba.

Hi milo...You can buy one of those 7 day pill organizers you see in the chemist shops. Just a plastic container with flip lids for each day/night of the week. That way it would be easy to get it all sorted out in one hit and no messing around each time you need to take a pill or two.

I beleive pilots and truck drivers are not allowed to drive if they are diabetic unless their Drs. allow them to.Yearly check ups required. Just an idea but why dont you take this chance and sack wombat as CEO from your airlines and reappoint yourself as chief? Probably a good thing to do now before its to late.

Milo, you can turn your diabetes completely around. I know of people who have done the right thing, eaten all the right foods and got their diabetes back to normal and don't need to take any medication at all.
That of course is only with doctors check and ok.
It can be done. Doc should have given you a list of food you can eat or your dietition will. Stick to it and you will be ok.

Hey milo,
Don't worry too much about it. Have been living with type two diabetes for about ten yrs. been on insulin about 4 yrs. it's not a biggie.
The dietician will be a big help. Exercise, watch what you eat but don't let it rule your life. You can have a burger on occasion. Drink diet drinks, lay off white carbs (bread, potatoes) and you will be fine.
The pill box thing is a good idea but if so far you are only on Metformin (diabetex) you won't need a pill box! Wait til you shovel down about 6 pills a day as I do! :) aspirin 100mg a day is a good cardiovascular protection. Can buy over the counter at a chemist.
Good luck. Don't stress! Oh... And don't be a couch potato like me! Lol

Hi Milo
Checked out your pasta pics. Was hard to tell what the first pasta was made of. If it is made with wholemeal flour it will be lower GI than white pasta so is better for you than white pasta.
The ravioli... Nah..that is prob quite high GI. Also, read the carbohydrate count on the side of packs. I give myself 4 units of insulin for each 10gms of carbohydrates so that would indicate carbs are your enemy! I try to stick to around 15 carbs per meal... Not always easy to do! I can cheat tho and give myself more insulin... You can't do that.
Watch the sauces too... Lots of sugar in those tomato pasta sauces.
There are some really good carbohydrate counters out there. Have a read of them and familiarise yourself with the better options.
Your diabetes nurse is your new best friend! I would often email mine with any problems and she was great at advising me of some better options. It's pretty scary and a big learning curve to start with but in no time at all you will adapt and life will be normal.
Good luck.
Vicki

G'day Milo, Sorry to hear about your medical condition mate but the main thing is to be positive, a few adjustments to your lifestyle is nowhere as bad as being dead, so chin up mate and take the advice given to you and you will be around along time to enjoy this great country.

Listen to music to give you relief from thinking about your troubles and get Slim Dusty disc with the song on it titled "How Good it Is" the words in this song will enlighten and lift you up.

"HOW GOOD IT IS" Sung by Slim Dusty words by Don Walker

How Good is Life

Come on Look around

Just take awhile and Grin

How Good it is

How beautiful this World

How wide the sky

Just stand awhile alone and Smile

How good it is

How good it is to smell the air

One minute maybe five

I'd give all my cares, everything I own

To Know that every moment I,m alive

How sweet this Day

Come on look around

From these feet on out to miles away

How Good it Is

There are moments when the heart is filled

All Breath is taken Away

Everything you feel inside goes still

For no reason, just to listen to the day

How Good Is Life

Come On Look Around

Just Take It in Awhile and Grin

How Good It Is

Chin Up Mate! and Have a good one.

Kev

Hey Milo,

Think about the half full part of the glass.

You get special attention some times when you let them know you're diabetic.  Any operations or medical procedures they always put you first on their list. No waiting around.

After a while you get to the stage where you don't even look at the things you can't have and many things can still be had but just in smaller quantities, or in a different way.  Instead of fish and chips from the shop, oven chips and grilled chips are fine.  There are alot more worse things in life than Being a Diabetic.

I always has a feeling in my mind, whatever is the situation it's all good for me, take these things normal and in positive sense, it will helps you to think positive and find the solution. May be you are in bad condition with these health issues but taking these things positive will show you good results.
