Has anyone been using a vpap machine with the humidifier on 12 volt, we have put solar on and i have been told i will need a 300 watt PURE Sine Wave inverter, would like to know if anyone has first hand experience with this.
I learnt something new this morning (too early!)....Resmed do call their machine a VPAP. I thought as Sheba did especially with the C and V next to each other on the keyboard. I'll put the brain back in neutral now!
Re pure sine wave, It's my view to always prefer a PSW when purchasing an inverter even if the intended application is ok with a cheaper MSW inverter. The reason being you will probably at some time wish to use the inverter for other purposes for which a PSW is advisable.
Based on their specifications 300w would be more than adequate but if there is a lead or converter available from Resmed to enable it to be run directly from 12v without an inverter this would be the better option.
By the way, and please do not take this personally as it applies to other members too, when asking questions of this nature it is best to give some details such as model, brand etc otherwise the question falls into the "how long is a piece of string" catagory.

I used a 12v A-Pap (Tyco) machine for many years in a camper with only 110AH battery and 40W solar and it worked fine without the humidifier. Then upraded to the current Resmed and added a 300w pure sine wave inverta (the 12v adapator wasnt available then) and that worked fine too (still no humidifier) Currently in the Bus I use the same resmed and have tried the humidifier (now haw 400AH batteries and 700w Solar) however find that the Humidifier uses far more power so have learned to get away without it.

I stand corrected.
Cheers,
Sheba.
We both stand corrected! we live and learn! (I'll take the rest of the day off now)
Thanks for all in info, sorry its taken me till now to answer you all spent the last 24hrs in hospital my machine is a Resmad iv vpap [varied pressure] i have been in touch with resmad and they have the inverters for $600 i need to have a 300 watt because mine has a humidifier & full face mask and so uses more power, i was really wanting to know if anyone is using the same machine on 12 volt and do they think its worth the expense, it has to be psw as the msw don't work the machine properly, sorry if i'm not very clever with all this techo talk.

I think that if you shop around you will find a 300 watt pure sw inverter much cheaper.
So that's the difference - I too would have said CPAP - but that obviously stands for Controlled Pressure whereas VPAP is Varied Pressure. Glad you posted colsa. Hope you find an answer to the problem My husband just doesn't use his when he doesn't have power. (I know, that's naughty.)

It may be in order to be able to register the name as a trademark, don't take that as "gospel" as its only a guess.
Thanks to jimricho & justcruisn01, Thank you both so much for your help i had never heard of jaycar but have rung them & can get a 380watt as you said for $239, which will be ample for my machine i'm guessing you are correct about the "Resmed" name on their inverter making it so expensive, Thanks once again.
