I was down at the Info Centre when it opened this morning and I had to stand in line .. sure is getting active .. I'll still be out here at the Dam til next week when I move in closer to town ..
No, I haven't been involved with the showgrounds at all .. but I do know a few that camp riverside at various locations. I dont really mind being a little distance away from the action as its not so "overwhelming" .. and can get a good nights sleep ..
Have friends out of town aways that are on acreage including a small creek to camp beside .. so I'm not really complaining .. and safety is a good factor !
The riverside it ok lots on nomads down there dont think it get too noisy but you have to asked someone ..not sure if you get into the showground at this late date might be booked out but u can try ..and there the footy fields too 3 of them to look at see if any spots ......

If there is such a thing as a tourist season.... why cant we shoot them?
Last year we wanted to see the Festival but there was no reasonable accommodations - either camping or in a motel in Tamworth. By accident, we ended up at the Walcha Caravan Park on the Oxley Highway.
We were so lucky as they had a 'Camp Draft' on at the same time in Walcha. Then we were told about travelling to Tamworth by train. A local free bus picked us up from the caravan park and took us to 'Walcha Rail' which was about 20kms in time for the train which was going from Armidale to Sydney. It took us about an hour on the train and left us at the Tamworth Station which is very near to all the activity. We walked about listening to the many buskers and had a fantastic day for about 5 hours and then caught the Sydney to Armidale train back to 'Walcha Rail'. The train was slightly late but the local bus knew the train was late and was waiting and took us back to the caravan park.
The best part was the price. For my wife and myself, as senior pensioners the total cost was under $12. It was one of the many wonderful day trips that we had. Another couple from the caravan park went with us which also added to the experience. At the time, there were lots of cabins and sites available at the Walcha Caravan Park and the prices were extremely reasonable.
