Just heard that some streets up around Whitepatch - the northern end of the residential area on the island has been issued with a warning to possibly evacuate. That's up near Banksia Beach area. There is not a lot of residences up around that area, but still .....
The campsites that have been evacuated are the ones in the National Park only.
The wind is something else, but at least it is blowing the smoke across Pumicestone Passage towards the mainland, and it (the smoke) was being blown down towards Deception Bay etc at lunchtime when we came back from visiting my mum at Sandgate.
A lot of bushland down 'our end' of the island at Bongaree (down below the jetty) was burnt back in November - never thought I would thank an arsonist!! But it seems to have saved this end of the island this time.

Hang in there. The change may get that far north - or even better, it might rain. Isn't there a cyclone developing to NW of WA? Maybe some of that will make it to the east.
remember being on holiday on Bribie Island about 20 years ago. fire on mainland as well. evacuating over the bridge and we were redirected goodness knows where till we reached the highway. main bribie road was shut. very, very, scary. hope and prey this one fizzes out.
Bribie Update - fires are within containment lines, but a lot of plantation stuff burnt out. Backburning being done today to reduce any further problems. Smoke as black as, but the wind isn't as bad today as it was yesterday, so here's hoping all will be well.

Hopefully your home wouldnt be threatened by a fire in the north Pejay? it seems weird to think of fires there, it was all soggy and wet when we saw it last autumn. There seems to be fires all over lately
