Only 30kms to get to Scottsdale but took a detour to Ledgerwood to see the carvings. A row of memorial trees were planted to honour the fallen from the 1st world war but by the early 90s they were considered a hazard to pedestrians and vehicles and ordered to be cut down. After a huge uproar it was decided to cut them down but leave stumps to be carved by chainsaw and here are some of the outstanding results.

Arrived in Scottsdale to find a lovely parkland setting just behind the free camp, Camps6 #3, plenty of room even now in the holiday season. Hot showers are available for 3 X $1 coins, havent tried them yet after the Wharf at St Helens experience. Very clean toilet area with water readily available and rubbish removal. There are 240v power points in the toilet area very useful to top up batteries in phones and cameras. 

As I am beginning to expect there is no internet from Floptus but a couple of German travellers allowed me access to their wifi yesterday and I am hoping to post this later. All in all a great spot within walking distance to the town centre, we are staying an extra night here in Scottsdale    John

Those carvings at Ledgerwood are so moving, I was in tears. They said the carvings are so accurate that the people from Ledgerwood who went to WW1 could be recognised. Thank you John.

We had Floptus in Tas and only had a signal in Hobart and Launceston, the Nutt, and the ferry to Bruny Island! Telstra works though.

Wow! They look great! Camping spot looks awesome!
So envious! Can't wait to hit the road and visit some of the great spots in your pics!
Five months to go...better find the 'perfect' van soon! :)

I've been travelling around Victoria and stayed at a lovely camp spot (Camps 5 No 600) on the edge of a town called Dartmoor which is about 45km from Mt Gambier.  They have similar carvings throughout the town.  I would download a picture, but not sure how to do it.

Dartmoor is a wonderful spot and there are more tree carvings about half way between Penola and Naracoorte also. They are on the side of the road with a good car park so one can stop and view them.

 Hi Janno - glad to see you still out there - hope your Chrissy was good.  To download a picture, you goto the "reply" screen - down the bottom there is a little square to click in that says attach image - browse for you photo in your saved pictures on the computer, when it has loaded, press "submit post" at the bottom of the screen - should work.

Hi Jules, Yes I'm still travelling around.  I'm home at the moment but heading off to Point Hicks next week for a couple of weeks camping with the family which I am really looking forward to.  Will be heading off across the Nullarbor towards the end of Feb - can't wait!

I've been keeping an eye on your travels.  Happy New Year to you, Billee and John and stay safe - not good news coming from Tassie at the moment.

You will enjoy the Nullarbor - take your time, enjoy some of the free camping beside the cliffs along the way - you will enjoy the trip.

Here at Scottsdale last night - down in the little ponds - saw platypus - never seen themin the wild before - very exciting!!

Just got internet for the first night since Lagoons Beach but had to take some Telstra Prepaid to get it.

We are still here at Scottsdale waiitng for some mail to be redirected before we set off to Lilydale.

John, try Liffy falls if you get the chance, good camp at the lower falls and good walk, you'll get some great photos of the falls as you walk up, the camp is right on the river, you'll love it, looking forward to some more of your great photos, at least better than mine were.

hi John, just been catching up with your blog.

I have a question for you re a pic you posted on Dec 26 of your van........is that a wind turbine you have on it or is that on some other vehicle in the background?

If it is, can you give me some details of it as we are interested in getting one and just wondering if they are worth it?

Hi Jean, the unit that is shown is a Saturn TV antenna. No connection to wind power generation. Hi Patty, hope that we can catch up whilst we are both in Tassie, have to see how your family commitments work out. I will be in the north and west intending to farm stay at Florinhill (Yolla) for up to a couple of weeks prior to the Peacefest at Wynyard. John
