Well, against my better judgement, I went to a Hairdresser again yesterday. I am so upset, angry, and disgusted, as I should have known better.
My hair was getting longer, and because I've had some health issues over the last few months, was getting a little hard for me to keep looking neat.
Decided to go to a local Hairdresser I'd heard good reports about.
Disaster !!!
I asked for it to be cut no shorter than shoulder-length. Even as she started to cut, I asked if that was going to be long enough. She assured me it was.
Result, ******* Hair just below the bottom of my ears. That's at least 2 inches shorter than I wanted, and I didn't need to be made to look any uglier than I already am.
So I'm not very happy tonight.

Sheba you still look wonderful.Your hair wiil grow again.It's gone now so don't fret.
Ooooh! Sheba, I relate to that. And it seems to take so b***** long to grow back!
My mistake was to say "short"... then I barely took my hat off for 3 months. Fortunately we were travelling and by the time we got home it was almost presentable again. My only advice is to hit the hat shop!
PS. Its a girl thing Ibbo, but nice try, very gallant!
Always seems that way when you want it to grow quickly. Unfortunately, I don't like wearing Hats. Suppose I could try Scarves, but it's still a bit hot up here at the moment.
Sorry to hear that hairdresser didn't listen. I'm spoilt - my daughter does my hair. Sometimes she requests to cut it shorter or do different coloured foils - so I usually let her and she's usually right and I end up happy. You'd be amazed at how many times she tells me stories of fixing other hairdressers' mistakes though! Oh, and she charges the right price too - free for Mum and Dad. At least hair grows back. Hope it's not too long doing that Sheba.
I know how you feel Sheba. It is hard to find a good hairdresser on the road. I don't stress about it now and have even given up colouring my hair, which has not only made things a lot simpler, but I've saved heaps. As long as I can keep it clean and tidy I'm happy
For those nomads on a tight budget or just watching where their money is going but are unwilling to let their partner near them with a pair of scissors, the good old barber shop could be another alternative as many now do womens hair. They are often much more experienced than the young girls(or boys) that are common in the hairdresses plus they are normally much cheaper than hairdressers. So if you just want a normal cut with nothing fancy then it could pay to just poke your nose into a barbers door when passing and ask the question.

#4 and it's all done with me Sheba. I get it like that in readiness for any loss of hair later, then it won't be much different. Bonus is I don't have to comb it every day. Anyway I'm not out to impress. Don't worry about venting on here, it's much better than being nasty like some do elsewhere in this forum.
Just think it will be at the length you wanted sooner than soon, go for a drive somewhere nice, and,

I love short hair- the shorter the better. Had it all shaved off once- now THAT was hard! Did it as a fundraiser for the cancer appeal, but never again. It was hot in the sun, cold out of it, looked bad and took over 12 months to grow back into a decent shape.
Raised a heap of money though and that wad good.
The thing is that its YOUR hair, and you need to feel good wearing it. When we get highjacked with haircuts/styles, its like we get robbed. Logic won't work, its a personal feeling thing.
Find something to make it feel good again till it grows............ colour it.............get new (expensive) shampoo....................style it.......
If you feel "ugly" you need to work on self esteem, as no one is ever really ugly.............old yes, ugly no.
Sheba don't look in the mirror for at least 2 weeks. lol They say there is 2 weeks between a bad haircut and a good one. When I get mine cut I ask for very short, that way its a while before I need another one, but when I went grey I found it easier not to look in the mirror until I got used to the different look.
Oh Sheba, I know exactly what you mean - for the first time since I was about 15, I have given up colouring my hair, letting it go "au naturelle"!!!!! BUT - need a cut at the moment, and the guys won't take me back to Burnie, where a girl did a lovely job on a cut for me!!!!!! Will have to try my luck here in Scottsdale, and hope for the best - I only want about half an inch off - just a tidy up really, and a bit of a thinout on the top - but try and tell that to some of these young things who can wear their hair any way they like!!!! Grrrrr!!! Frustrating is the word I think.

A hat is a good thing to wear, keeps the sun of our noses. My partner has a shiny pate, and has had mant trips to the skin specialist, made me realise how important it is to protect our face/head from the sun. But I confess that horrible haircut was responsible for making me wear a hat as a habit, not only for special occasions.
If you are ever passing through Biggenden Qld and need a haircut, great hairdresser. Only charges 15.00 very quick and does a great job. No app necessary except on Thursdays. Also open saturday morning.
I suppose i will be one of the lucky ones for a hiarcut as my partner is a qualified hairdresser and barber, and we will be out and playing amongst and with you all in March this year.
Thanks for all your support everyone. Seems a silly thing to complain about, but it doesn't help when you have depression knocking at the door. Been trying to ward it off for months, and this didn't help. It'll just take me a bit longer to get back on top, that's all.
But I will. Gave up colouring it a couple of years ago Jules, in preparation for getting on the road, but I'm still not there yet.
At least I don't have the problems those poor people in Tasmania have.
Glad to see you have 'chin up' again Sheba. Hang in there. Keep in touch and vent when ever you like. That's a good thing about the friends you have on this forum. It doesn't worry them.
Had my daughters wedding and my hairdresser of 3 years knew I wanted to grow it. She had taken some pain killers just before she cut mine and was off her chops.
I ended up with a hacked up job and didn't have another hair cut for 4 months. I got a bit of length in it before the wedding but I was hopping mad.
I felt like such a dill with this silly haircut.

I must be a binge thinker. I do it a lot at times, then, not much at all.
I've had some disasters too, over the years. I'm very very fussy about how my hair is cut, so when I find a good hairdresser, I stick to them like glue. Along the way, some left to have babies, some retired and some just became too expensive. I've come to the conclusion that the older ones usually know what they're doing...not always, but usually.
I changed to a different one just recently. I just walked in and said I like your haristyle, can you do that with mine. Yep! And I'm very happy with it.
I also wear hats every time I'm outdoors. While travelling, it's a bonus that I like hats because it means I don't have to 'do' it.
As Marj said Sheba, just don't look at it for a few weeks.
I realise this is a girl thread, but I ended up here after searching for "barber". ISTR that in the "GN Guidebook" there is a suggestion to look for retired GNs who may have been, and still are, barbers or hairdressers. In fact I reckon it would be a good idea if everyone who had a trade or skill were to let people know about it by way of a sign in the window of their car or van.
As for getting a satisfactory haircut, why not photograph yourself at all angles and simply show the barber how you'd like to look? In any case, a haircut isn't a hair-ectomy, so the human body will eventually repair the damage (as it no doubt already has)
BTW, why does my dog never need a haircut, and why does she always wake up looking as good as she went to bed?
