I must have a different setting on mine Hylda&John. Will go check that out.

It is the mindset of our local shire/council here in Echuca. Every year the local resident complain about the rubbish along the banks of the Murray, left by campers from out of town come visiting for the summer holidays. And yet they will not put skips out in appropriate spots but say they should bring out what they take in. Well that doesn't always happen and they don't get it. Wouldn't skips be a cleaner alternative than having to go out with back to pick up the rubbish left disgustingly everywhere.

Edit: Just changed my settings from 15 post to the page - to - 25 posts to the page. Brought this thread back  to 3.

Yes the sewer has a larger diameter than the house service which is only 100 mm. I have a friend in Brisbane who is splitting his allotment in 2 , Hs you can only have 2 house services on 1 line leading to the manhole ,For the new allotment a new manhole and headworks have to be installed at a cost to him of $35000 , The council has told him user must pay

I can't believe we are up to 5 pages on the fact that Echuca does not have a public dump point when smaller towns in the same region can supply one. Also the fact that 20.00 to dump is highway robbery.

 5 pages?

You must have a skinny computer Marj. pc.gif It's only barely 3 pages on mine.  As usual, any subject touching on toilets seems to attract a lot of attention on forums, eg: nappisan etc.

Anyway for all the discussion on the subject I think the majority does agree a tourist town like Achuca would be well advised to install a dump point, if only to just avoid the negative publicity they are getting from forums like this one. Also, my opinion on $20 dumping fee jawdrop.gif ... censored.gif

Cheers

I did a day trip to Straddy yesterday where my kids are camped. It doesn't look as if there's a dump point on the whole island. I don't have my 'bible' here, so can't check on it, but it's not listed on http://www.sanidumps.com/sanidumps_australia.php

Like the camping on the Murray at Echuca, people must be just digging holes. That's what my kids will have to do I guess.

By the way, it was a fabulous day, and they have a great camp just inside the tree line at Flinders. It's also not far to Dunwich for supplies and picking up Mum from the water taxi. biggrin

The sanidumpoints is not comprehensive. I know there is a free dump point at the visitors centre in Emerald. Also one at the park in Mulwala.

There is a sheet at the information centre for vanners to sign regarding a suitable dump point to be installed.

I would not worry about the hornets nest Ken, As you stated in your original post, even the Infomation centre, has a form to sign requesting the council supply a suitable dump point ???

Some on here like to go on the attack, and apparently know more about Echuca, than the Information centre does ???? I personally found your post informative and learnt something, so thank you ? smile

Ten four good buddy, I agree.

Keep stirring that pot Ken. I have been known to stir the pot as well, all good fun.

This is a serious point though cos it involves a lot of money to a lot of people. Almost worth a trip to Echuca to sign the protest form.

Maybe we should all get our GN Stickers and Stubby Holders and walk down the main street of Echuca protesting biggrin Cindy will shoot me at dawn for that one. biggrin

Marj we can't keep blaming our council for people bad habit ,I have seen council put out bin on the side of the road and lots of people still just leave their any where but in the skip. Poor council can't win most council work under the wish of their rate payer who they represent . I would like to thank all the rate payers and local council who have gone to a lot of expense to provide us with Dump point at no cost to us travelers and let us dump our sh-t on and let them clean it up

You're quite right Terry .. We can only speak for ourselves and we are just a small part of the travelling group .. We might be doing the right thing but we are also not responsible for the plain laziness of others .. I really cant see it changing much overall ..

I am not blaming the council, but the residents have a go at them every year after the holiday season is over, because they go out and clean it up themselves as it is so disgusting. If only the council would put skips out, maybe, hopefully, people would put their rubbish in there.
Last year they did put skips somewhere out by Torrumbarry and it worked. All rubbish from that area was dropped in the skips. But this year they are refusing to, says its not their responsibility. Go figure.

I didn't take the car or van over, so I'm not sure of the cost of the barge, but I believe it's over $100. I reckon I'd want to be there for a couple of weeks to warrant paying that price.

There were lots of camper trailers and 4WD's. Beach camping is very very popular. I didn't get to see into any CP's but I guess there must be caravans too.

Back on thread again - maybe Echuca councillors should be encouraged to take a day trip out to Hay to check out the facilities offered there for travellers - between the information centre and a parking area in the main street (yes the main street not a back street), there is fresh water, a dump point, showers and parking for RVs.  Brilliant!!

We liked Hay too. Nice friendly people, a great free camp on the river, and I had a major service done on the car at a third of the price Hyundai quoted me!

Of course the younger people can spend more money on their holidays. When I knew that I was going back to my $80k job at the end of the holidays I spent more too. But now I'm retired it's more like $18k, yet I also need to buy food and fuel wherever I go. Smart councils know that the year round travellers will, in total, spend as much as the 2 week tourists, and I can't see why I should pay full fees in a caravan park when all I need is a piece of grass to park on. So I don't stay in parks, that just means my money goes to local businesses instead of cp owners (in many cases the council).  As a solo there is no way I can pay to park my van. I have stayed in towns where there is free parking with coin-operated showers, and the local general store would have to close down without the nomads. I'd rather support the store than the council, but of course I only speak for ME.

I'm sure there are travellers who don't clean up after themselves, but a lovely park near Bundaberg has overflowing bins because the LOCALS use them instead of paying at the tip (no garbage collection here).  No one comment can be considered to apply to all places, people or situations.

For any of you visiting Echuca / Moama may I suggest that you can camp at Rich River Golf and Bowling Club in Moama if one of you join the club, forget the cost but is cheap, you need to be self contained, and there is a dump point there keys at reception, once you have joined you can return there whilever you are a member, there is a limit to time of stay and you have all the benefits of being a member  during your membership period.

I would also recommend Lockington Travellers rest which though not free is cheap for power, showers and also has a dump point on site which you can use regardless of staying or not.
