King Brown Snakes

Out west NSW it was told to us that in the Autumn its quite dangerous to go near a water source in the evenings, as the snakes go to water and they are aggressive as its their breeding season. If anybody knows whether this is true, I'd be interested.

When a snake AWAKES from the winter hibernation the venom is at a higher concentration.
Often see snakes swimming a river to get to the other side.
Most snakes will slide away if you make a noise as you move, BUT then there are the ones that will attack for no apparent reason so best to stay away if you can.
Also some snake wait for their prey such as death adders so be aware if walking in grass or sea weed as they love the mangroves etc.
I carry a piece of heavy electrical wire under my seat. It is easy to roll up but if needed it will conform to the ground contours and render a snake inactive if you manage to hit it, but best to leave alone if it is not endangering you or you friends / family nearby.
For most just stand still and they will continue on their way but never run away, just walk slowly in a direction at 90 degrees to their track.
Not an expert just lived in the bush for most of my life. Most of the experts almost suggest you should never kill a snake but if for personal safety I will and have, but I always prefer to let them go as they have a purpose in this world perhaps more than we do.

I thought of a situation at Greens Lake in Victoria while I was there a Month ago, not a King Brown but a Brown came out of the water that I was about to go in, took me a few hours to build up the courage to go in.

Showing at my end Spida. I am starting the re-wire of the Avan next Monday, a little hold up with my mate (hot weather). Never thought of taking my AV off as well while the Avan is in dry dock. Nah! It can stay.

The King Brown snake is a member of the black snake family. It's the normal brown snake which is the really agressive one. There was a large snake on the road the other day sunning itself and I just went around it. No threat to me.

The majority of people that suffer snake bites are attempting to kill the snake, a snake can react, far faster than the person carrying out the attack, it's far safer to leave them alone.
