I have heard that starting this year we will no longer have rego

stickers on our cars I can- not understand this and can see a

lot of trouble As people will have to make sure cars have their rego paid

before driving them and what about truck drivers they will have to make

sure before driving a company truck crazy!!!!!!!

No sticker but you still get your renewal as before so rego payment will be no different.
I can't comment on company cars/trucks.

The Law Enforcement people now have computers that scan your number plate and can tell if its registered, also if the owner has a current license, furthermore if the owner is wanted for anything. Rego stickers not needed anymore.
You still get your rego paper, so if driving a different vehicle, hired or company owned, you can check that,

What happens if you are travelling interstate and that state does not have this system of no rego label if the Cops pull you over and you are not carrying a reco certificate, I dont have one in my car with me and dont normally carry one in my wallet, what sort of issues like this are we likely to experience.

Thats a good point about not being able to check rego status if you are required to drive another persons vehicle as its your responsability to make sure the vehicle is legal.

We always had to check this in the service trade if you needed to road test a vehicle. IF it was unregistered we had to fit a traders plate before we drove the vehicle.

If you are caught driving an unregistered vehicle then you cop the fine, not the owner.

For people who drive several vehicles a day this will be an issue, having to go online to check them all will be an inconvenience & time consuming.

Maybe they will change the rules on that department, then maybe not.

I have an app for my android that lets me check via SA transport and also just put a reminder in the phone calender to remind me a couple days ahead of running out .

No stickers in Tassie now either. All Cops, everywhere can access rego plates from any State on their laptops in Police Cars. I just paid mine and have copied the Notice received in the mail and on reverse side, copied Bank receipt where I paid online...and carry in glove compartment..

If it saves the Govt money they will go for it for sure.

There are problems of course but if you are legal and do get stopped might be a hassle sorting our your paperwork.Might get to the point where you have to carry your receipt with you in the car.

I just hope it doesn't get to the situation they have in the UK where they don't have Third party insurance with their rego so have to have a minimum insurance cover and cannot drive without valid insurance.

The insurance companies now have to inform the Police if a clients insurance is not paid or ceases for whatever reason. Then Big Brother Police drive round and if they see you driving the numberplate recognition system flags your vehicle and there you go, Done for no insurance.

How would that work if you pay by the month and your pay is held up.Like the Qld nurses not getting paid and bank software stuff ups?.

Big Brother. It will come our way for sure. They already use the numberplate recognition system for point to point speeding and "Fatigue Management"

All a rego sticker shows is that you have been sent a renewal, unless you look at it to see if it has a receipt number printed on it. My guess is that there is some vehicles out there with a label attached that are not registered, Rod

Here in SA if your driving an unregistered vehicle & it goes through a plate recognition camera, the registered owner is fined not the driver. On the other hand if you are speed ing in another persons car & its caught by a camera the owner is fined. Unless they can prove it wasnt them. I know this as i was driving the wifes car & she coped the fine not me. It realy is about how mutch revenue can be collected.

Here in Vic your sticker is not stamped. You receive it in the mail, stick it on your window and pay online. So there is nothing on it to say it has been paid. The police would have to look it up just the same as if you had no sticker at all.

Just checked a current rego label that was paid 12-2012. It has the rego date 17-12-2012 in bold numbers/letters from the printer, plus the invoice number from the payment receipt. Make, model, plate no, GVM, & a printed date matching expirey date. All this info would make it easy for another driver to be sure the vehicle is registered.

I have a couple more due next week so will try to find out where you stand as for driving another persons vehicle if it was to come up unregistered.

Hi! J.C That is the point that I was trying to say as my son in law

years ago was driving an unrego. bike and thought it had rego

he had an accident and was in a lot of trouble. Just to watch out

I had a similar thing happen year back, test driving a vehicle and a cop pulled me over. Turned out the vehicle was not registered.

Luckily the cop gave me a break, and told me to take the vehicle straight back to the yard and do not pass go.

This can now be avoided by going to https://myrta.com/regcheck/ (NSW registered vehicles)

In a couple of steps you can find out some interesting things about the vehicle.

I have used it plenty of times, a great site. (will also post this as a new thread)

Surely you can just get some agent's plates added to the test vehicle if it is not registered and you want to take it for a drive? Or is that only for new cars that haven't been registered?
