Its maddness here on Magnetic island, also. I have worked double charters, 2 a day, since xmas. The shop is out of bread and ice. He sold 200 bags of ice since xmas, and the parking is crazy. Lucky I have a 4wd, and can park on the beach.See you soon, Bill

I'm currently camped in my sisters yard at Tin Can Bay until the new year, along with some of her family and mine, so quite a mob here. Just as well they have a big yard! Lots of fun with 4 grandies between us.
Yesterday we all piled into 4WD's to do a circuit into Cooloola National Park, onto Teewah Beach, back to Rainbow Beach and home. And boy was the beach busy with campers and traffic! The campers were packed in like sardines! Not my idea of camping.
And one almost needed a pedestrian crossing to get down to the ocean!
The track from Double Island Point to Rainbow Beach..I think it's called the Leesha track?...was very chewed up and of course, someone was bogged...on the wrong side of the track naturally. Rainbow Beach itself was packed with people walking, swimming etc, and the little township was a sea of cars, mainly 4WD's. And ice creams are an obligatory end to our beach drives...yum!
It was getting late in the day, so we didn't get up to Inskip Point, but I know it was packed too, as number 2 son tried to get in there. They ended up at Poverty Point which is terrible midgee/snadfly/mozzie country, so I reckon they'll be coming back here before very long.
I'm sure the whole of the Australian coastline is the same at this time of year. Those of us who are retired have the luxury of going to the beach when the school hols are over.

Quite right GD. I wouldn't bother at this time of year normally...it's only because the family is all here.
Beth54, Mr Yum Yum has been running the beach for at least 20 yrs that I know of, at one stage he was "Streets" Ice cream largest single operator to sell ice creams in SE Qld, he was always stopped at the "Cherry Venture" before the Fun Police removed it.
We haven,t got the beaches like down south, and you can only park if you have a house to acess or a boat to go to. Everything is packed and we have had good weather and some good fishThis is nice coral trout we caught,Will be on my way down south after OZ day as if gets really quiet here.See you soon , Bill
What a Lovely fish and the Area looks fantastic....I spent some time at Inskip this year and enjoyed it so much I wish I could get back next year but I think my camping days are only going to be at Greens Lake

I always leave my camping area cleaner than I found it.
That is the reason we never travel in school holidays. The luxury of being retired. The only times we do is when we are on a long trip and the holidays catch up with us. Never ever at Christmas. Been there done that ,now love our peace and quiet and having it all to ourselves with other grey nomads.
That's a shame jimbo. But Greens Lake is better than sitting around twiddling your thumbs.
Pambaz, only that my sister lives here, I wouldn't bother either. We actually have it pretty good by camping in their front yard. We don't have to pay camping fees, we can have fun times with our families together, and we can do day trips out and around this beautiful area.
We're going to to the foreshore at Tin Can Bay this arvo so the littlies can join in the New Year festivities, then back here for a BBQ dinner, put the them to bed, and party! Don't know that we seniors will see in the New Year, but we'll enjoy it as late as we're able.
Good to here its packed up around the Hervey Bay area...... We are heading North tomorrow, stopping at Coffs for one night, then up to Casino for a couple of nights ( 2nd and 3rd) then on to Maryborough. Phil and I both work for ourselves at the moment so have to travel when we can!!!
Going to have a look at Casino RV Park and the Homebase at Maryborough plus taking in some Caravan Dealers on the way back. It's our way of finding out what is out there as we plan our big trip round.
Looking at Caravans we have a Kimberley Kamper at the moment but would like to move up to a van. Would like to travel but will have to work our way around in our late 50's so no assistance so work we will....
We have a Toyota Prado all set up and don't really want to change it however, this limits to the vans we can tow, as we would like something that can do 'dirt' have found the Millard Longreach which suits the Prado and is 19 foot and comes within our Tare. Will have a look at some others while on our travels.
If anyone is around these areas we would love to catch up. Wishing you all a Happy New Year, and safe travels.
My daughter and sil were camped at Inskip Point and returned here this morning telling us there was a hoard of thieves stealing the contents of peoples eskys over the last couple of days. One lot of campers had replaced what was stolen, only to have it stolen the second time. On refilling for the third time, the theives were seen and chased through the bush. Apparently one got caught up in a fence and ended up limpng. I'd say he was easily rounded up.
The younguns have gone out boating today and we seniors are recuperating from our late night.
It's been the same on the south coast of NSW too. Traffic queues into and out of towns. Gridlock in some towns when trying to shop. One supermarket employee thought we should put a roundabout in our local supermarket store! The locals just have to learn to pick their times to shop or go down the street. We can't complain - it's good for the towns.
