Water Leak.

Hi Curl, while my water leak was a bit different. While tracing mineI found that it was nowhere where it came out into the van. It in fact was about 2 meters away but traveled before presenting its self. You may want to consider that. Trust you find it soon. Water leaks can cause so much heart ache. In spite of it all trust you have a great christmas. Brian

Hello all.

I might be in the wrong place to ask this.......but perhaps someone can advise.

Had 100mm of rain last night and yes..........I have a water leak.

I have a 2009 "Jayco Sterling" and have a water leak through the light fitting on the Silver cover strip in front of the overhead Cupboards above the sink. I just thought that perhaps someone with the same Van might have been down this road before and might save me a bit of time to locate the problem.

But, would appreciate all help.

Thanks.

Curl.

We had a water leak recently that was caused by the cover on the TV antenna (where the antenna is attached to the van) having come loose. Fixed in 2 minutes with a bit of sealant.

I am still working on my water leak. Turns out it isnt one, but several, and I have found that you have to think outside the square, as previously stated water can travel some distance especially if the van isn't sitting level. Good luck :)

Where the water comes in is not where gets in. It could be where the roof joins the walls, or a join in the roof, or at a hatch, the aircon, the TV antenna, and runs to the light fittings. It doesn't seem to matter if the van is aluminium or fibreglass sheeting. It's a good insurance to run Sikaflex, marine and auto into all joins when the van is dry.
Check the amount of lean/fall the van has, from the high point to the lowest point.
You do need to seal the leak from the outside, BEFORE the water get in. It won't do the van any good to seal the light fittings, because the water will still be up there somewhere.
Good luck with that one.
I found the water ran down the underside of the aluminium sheet where it folds over and joins the next sheet and the front corner. It ran to the front of the van and into my wardrobes. Big job that one.

I had my watermarks assessed and the damage done to the interior, but no go with the insurance. I fixed the leaks, and the water marks stayed. The awning was also brittle and fragile, but no claim there either. I've replaced the awning earlier this year.
Funny thing insurance - NOT!

Well, I did'nt really locate the leak. I suspect that it was entering in through a corner of the Hatch that showed some moisture still present after 2 Days of drying out. So to be sure, I applied Silicon all over the sealed areas again. Just need to wait for the next Downpour now.
