G'day, Hello to all. First poster..been reading/lurking for a long time and learning plenty from your great Forum however havn't posted to date....
Across the back of our Jayco Caravan we have the words... 'Without Going, You Get No Where'....with my wife Julie and little person/pooch Pepe, we left Port Lincoln, our home base, in January 2010 and so far have only made it to Bendigo Victoria!... which we love as it's really a big Town that has everything and all in close proximity....plus we love gold fossicking/detecting in The Golden Triangle...<that's another story for another time>.....includes 12 months in Heathcote...do we qualify as Grey Nomads at all?...are we supposed to travel faster..?....did volunteering work there, and we really feel a part of each Town we've stayed, without having the social commitments we left behind in S.A.....dare I say, I for one, love going down the street dressed like one of our hero John Williamsons' 'old farts in Caravan Parks'...confident that I will not likely meet anyone I know well...how good is that feeling..?..do others secretly admit to enjoy only meeting those we really want to meet at this stage of our lives....?
Will be moving on again in near future to hopefully do the 'big one'.we just havn't quite worked out yet 'where' or 'there' as yet.....which at this rate of travel should be our 25 year objective..body,car and van willing....
We have just purchased some of your new vehicle display stickers, <very pretty indeed> so we should be less incognito in our future slow travels and hope to catch up with many of you good folk..who we already feel we know from your interesting and varied epistles....
Three years come January since we left, has gone so fast, seen so much, how good is this life?...All the best......Hoo Roo

Come on,,,,,, you can't get away with it that easily.
How much GOLD have you dug up,,,,,,, you will need to fes up. Heard that the rains about 18 months ago changed the landscape in Vic gold country.
Anyway have agood time,,, we go slow too when on the road,,, a bit tied up with oldies at the moment etc etc. People ask where we are going today etc etc and we say we don't know and usually don't go over say 300km max per day as we figure we save on diesel, theres a place to stay either free or cheap, there are perple to meet, such as you. Some people look at us as if we have 2 heads,,,lol.
Anyway enjoy, and have fun. We do.
BUT remember who left the gold there for you,,,lol. I'm either hopeless or dead unlucky at prospecting.
Cheers Baz

I'm not even going to attempt to type that name, so I'll just say Hi Larry & Julie! Glad you finally joined after the lurking.
I've recently been on a trip to Victoria and spent a few days around Bendigo visiting rellies a doing the tourist thing. I've been to Bendigo/Eaglehawk a couple of times before,,,my Nana lived In Sailors Gully Road,,,and this was definitely the best season to be there. I love the big country town atmosphere.
Alas, my time was more of the hare than the turtle, but I'll rectify that next time.
My travels are similar to yours but I get spurts now and again as I move from one site to another.
I may travel for two or three days and then stop for a week to rest.
I also do voluntary work as it gives me a purpose to travel.
At the moment I am based in Maldon working on steam trains and looking around.
Yesterday I was given a ride around the local area for the day till we blew a turbo in his car so finished the day in the cab of a tow truck.
I usually stay for about 2 months in one spot and then move on. My next big stop will be in Willow Springs where I will look after the place while he has an Op and then a holiday as they look after the place on their own all the year.
We all travel different and we should be happy that we are out here and not WORKING. I will HELP someone for FREE but not interested in working for money as I have done my bit and I hope I have enough money to exist till I croak it. Any left the kids will spend it and I would not like to give them that task. Better to leave bills.
Regards Brian

Thank you all for your most welcome welcomes..... Jules,I rarely use 5 words when 10 will suffice..Winston Churchill... One thing I have learnt about prospectors is that the ones who say they find nuggets..rarely have....and the ones that tell you that the gold has all gone in the Golden Triangle, and it's a waste of time still detecting for it...well..they are the most likely to still be finding it... I recently stayed at the magnificent Laanecoorie Caravan Park in the Golden Triangle over 4 day long weekend with about 50 dedicated old Gabby Hayes prospectors like myself, some with their partners, anyone who can remember who Gabby Hayes and his trusty burro were are certain like me to be grey nomads...Lol.....anyway it was around the camp fires at night in this beautiful secluded wooded park, that the nuggets began to appear in abundance with their attendant story's after liquormortis started to set in....grand folk are prospectors who really look out for each others interests, particularly if you get into strife out in the bush......just dont ask for the GPS Co -Ords of any of their gold finds....all they say is the old addage...'where gold be..is where she be'..... Jim and Robyn the owners will make anyone more than welcome in their park...and Jim is one person who will share his gold story's and even took us out to show where some grand finds had been made...one notable was the Poseiden mine off Poseiden Road named after a fabulous gold reef discovered on the day a horse named Poseiden won the Melbourne Cup in early 1900's... Nomad246 I have been out to Whroo and nearby Graytown detecting....Graytown is interesting and notable as the site of a WW2 prisoner of war camp wher amongst other prisoners of War the survivors of the German Koormoran were interned there for some 5 years..the Koormoran was the disguised merchant vessel that tragically sunk HMAS Sydney with the loss of over 600 Australian lives...the prisoners used to dig for gold as well and the remains of diggings and the camp cement slabs and original fencing can still be seen....it was no use digging their way out as Whroo and Graytown are located in State Forrests and there would have been no where for prisoners to go without being found or worse fates...the old original Chinese & European diggers cemetary at Graytown would hold many story's as well.... Hope to catch up with some of you in the near future in all our travels...maybe to Tassie next.as Jules suggests..we have 3 sola panels on our Jayco van roof and love independant camping too.....Hoo Roo
