Most disgusting caravan Park in Australia

disbelief My cousin has just returned from touring Victoria and told me about a caravan park in Melbourne's Outer West. He has written to the local council suggesting they do an assessment on the property which has now been done and the owners have been advised of what must be done and a time frame in which it must be done.

Some of the issues were: Mens Amenities, 1. only one shower useable and somebody had crapped in it and it was not cleaned for over half a day. 2. the door had been removed off one shower and others had no shower rose. 3. only one of three toilets was in working order and none had toilet paper. 4. The park in general was absolutley filthy and could be considered a health risk. 5. There were not enough power outlets and people were using power boards and leads on the ground and definately an OH&S issue. The owners were not interesting in discussing any problems. furiousfuriousfurious

We have used that park a couple of times and while it wasn't 4 star it was definitely not that bad. A friend even stayed there regularly when working. He'd be horrified to hear what it is like now. Glad it has been reported.

I wonder how much stated here is based on typical CP owner 'aloofness' as opposed to visitor behaviour.....afterall, as a visitor, why crap in the shower or (apparently) wreck the showerhead?....I DO understand the nature of new-visitor, first-impression etc, but why (oh..... why) is the expected onus on the CP owner to deal with such, well... literal 'crap' (for example)?

and I ask this with good intention regarding other's opinion...afterall, as previously posted, I may end up a CP owner but am more likely, shortterm, to be a CP visitor. biggrin

I think the CP in question may have had a lot of permanent caravans. Does that make a difference?

Sounds typical of the western suburbs of Melb ,,, (that'll excite some)

The park does have a majority of permanents and they only pay a very cheap rent and it probably was one of them or maybe somebody who wandered in off the street who left the deposit on the floor of the shower but why leave it there for half a day and why let the park deteriorate into such a poor state of repair, although a lot of the problems have been created by other than the management, why would you leave it in such a terrible and disgusting state if you hope to make a living from it.

EllenandJoel, I can understand what you are saying in regards to the CP owner, however that is his job. Having managed a Motel for 3 years, I could write a book but it was up to us to ensure that guests (and I use that term loosely regarding some), mess and crap was cleaned up as soon as humanly possible in order that the next person to book in was greeted with an immaculate room and facilities. Waiting for those that are staying at your premises to clean up after themselves, well you will be waiting to doomsday in a lot of cases. Most people are lovely and treat things with respect and care, however there are an awful lot that do not. The amount you charge does not make a difference either. I learnt very quickly not to judge a book by its cover, example was how different two family rooms were one year. Room one Mum, Dad and 3 kids, all dressed to the nines, new mercedes, lovely people, but OMG, their room was like a bomb had hit it, and then I would catch them cleaning the car down with my new towels. Then other family room, old holden, same configuration of guests, looked like they did not have a penny to their name, paid up front, and their room was immaculate, well behaved kidlets and really appreciated everything they had. They had saved all year to have a break for a couple of days in town.
So there are good and bad everywhere, and as the operator you get to deal with them all and clean up after them. Just the way it is. Having said all of that, I loved the lifestyle and the hospitality industry. Would do it again in the right place with the right property.

Sharon.

I don't suppose you could give us all a hint on the name, location of "The Park" just in case we are headed for it.

Probably best not to air that on this occasion, as the info was from a second-hand source.  Hope you all understand.

If you had read this yesterday, when it was posted, you would have seen the name of "The Park".   However, it seems that the Webmaster has deleted it .    Might be an idea to PM aussietraveller.

Cheers,

Sheba.
