Camps Australia Wide Update Service

Just a reminder that CAW provide a free online update service for 4 years from issue of edition.

http://www.campsaustraliawide.com/content/39-update-service

This will bring any edition within that 4 years up to date as any later editions.

Please note that even if you buy Camps 7 (due approx Feb/Mar 2013) you will still need to do a free online update as it is possible that there may be some new updates since it was published/printed.

Gday...

I guess they are 'free' because they are only 'updates' provided by people like us who provide 'feedback' to CAW on sites we have used in the book and found changes.

They are only an online list, so "no cost" to produce for CAW.

Cheers - John

Which is the best Camp 6 to buy, Mega Version $89.95 or regular version $59.95. I currently use CMCA Wanderer's Mate, but find it not so comprehensive...

I don't know anything about the apps so can't help you there.  Gorilla, I only use the non pic version, but those who have the pic version are happy with it from what I have read on GN.   Don't forget the RAC give a discount to members (not sure about NRMA).  If you google Camps Australia Wide it comes up with a list of price comparisons from different sources.  One really good thing about Camps is they have good Hema maps so you don't have to buy a separate map book, which is a saving on costs in itself.

.............................................................................................................................

John, the authors do their own trips too as well as rely on users feedback (very important to them for accuracy), I think they either just did a leg or are about to, they try to do a leg from time to time to check for any updates etc, as well as from other sources.

Thanks for the info. My next trip wont be till end of March, so I have time to think about it. Been reading all the posts on Greens Lake, so will be heading there for a week or two.

I'm very reluctant to be critical of the authors of the CAW publications. The compiling and checking of the data of over 3500 camp sites would be a very time consuming undertaking. The fact that many caravan/RVers regard these publications as "The Bible" for campsites is indicative of the value of their efforts. The suggestion that the time compiling the updates for both the next editions and the on-line updates is "no cost" is absurd.

Yes, no cost to the consumers who already have the Camps books, but certainly a cost to the book owners as you have said for carrying out their own research and compiling an updates etc, etc.......It is a credit to the owners of CAW that they provide these updated to us free online (for a period), if they did not do so we would have to buy the next editions to stay up to date etc.

Gday...

Thanks Jimricho and DUH (Vic) .... further confirms what nomad246 has accurately and pertinently pointed out ... I should refrain from providing advice/comment.

Judging by each of your responses, I have obviously worded my post thoroughly badly. If both of you completely misunderstood what I meant by my comment regarding the cost of online updates/adjustments, then I should, and will, keep me mouth closed.

Cheers - John
