Learning?

Hi Folks, over the years of caravanning, I have reached the following conclusions.

If you leave the roof hatch open when you retire for the night there will be a distinct possibility of rain before morning.

If you are on a winding road in the forest you will only meet a log truck on a hairpin bend.

If you fail to properly secure a window before setting off, it results in a three week wait for a new one and a big hole in the pocket.

Punctures nearly always occur in outside wheels.

Aeroguard is a gourmet meal for all insects.

If you are the only van in a free park, someone will come in and park next to you. ( I am far from anti-social but a some space is nice)

The tug performs much better when the van handbrake is off.

When reversing if the wife says left hand down a bit it actually means right hand. ( I bet that gets me into strife!)

It is best to detach and stow the waste water pipes before moving off.

You park up, pull out your nice clean awning and within minutes some bird has used it for a toilet.

You time your fuel consumption to get you to the next servo only to see a sign on the pump that states, "No diesel until Wednesday" Its Monday. This only happened once, we now carry extra fuel.

Park as far away from a whizz bang as you can get, especially if there are young people in it. They love to hear the sound of the door closing.

Finally, you have all heard of Murphy's Law, but this is Magnarcs Law, Murphy was an optimist!!!!

Seriously though we wouldn't swap the lifestyle with anyone, with all the little niggles its a great life and we have met some wonderful people over the years,

Happy trails,

Phil B.

Great post Magnarc, and ain't it all so true.

You forgot the one about being offered exspurt advice only to find the guy knew nothing and now you're 100's of K's away and can't let him know he was full of bad advice.

Question:- never heard of a "whizz bang" ,,, what is it so I don't park next to one.

Cheers

Magnarc, that is all so true. Add on that if you fail to secure your awning even worse things happen than with the unsecured window!!!

Nomad 245, a Wizzbang is so named because it is the noise made by opening/closing the sliding doors of some smaller campervans.

Fortunately we learned that lesson through the trials and tribulations of a couple who were parked near us. There was a long story about the insurance company refused to pay, and the van itself was damaged too.

Hi Nomad 246 a whizbang is a camper van like a high ace with a door in the side commonly used by Backpackers who open and close it whiz-open, bang closed most commonly in the early hours of the morning, mostly young ones are the guilty ones as the more mature generations are more considerate.

Ahhh thanks for that ,, that explains a lot of things about the noises we hear numerous times a night from up the channel ,,,, must be HW taking a night dash out of Myrtle.

Thanks ,,, now I know what we're hearing

(I guess HW has already pm'd me to set me str8) biggrin

Expecially if you use a generator.

Seriously it is hard to close a Hiace sliding door quietly and when I try to, I end up slamming it worse to get it to close properly. But I do try to be considerate.

IF you clean the grit from the bottom quide chanel & lubricate the roller bearings on the door 75% of the noise is gone, some can't even figure that out   .confuseconfuseconfuse

My track is clean, I just have to work out where the roller bearings live and lubricate them. Grease? WD40?
