Wombat, I don't know if genuine or not but I got an email from a friend that looked suspicious and when I checked with her someone had hijacked her account.
The hijacker used the address book of the account holder to send emails to. Definitely check it out before doing what it says.

Yes I know this is not caravan related and should be in I Digress BUT I wanted feedback from all memebers that use Hotmail, and not all members go to I Digress or the Tech Support post's. Having said that I now think it IS caravan related and should go in General as a lot off members use Hotmail when on the road.
Today I got this from Hotmail (see pic) anybody ever had the same?
I have not clicked on the Next button yet.
Womby, the General Forum is for "A friendly forum where you can seek advice, exchange tips and share experiences about the grey nomad lifestyle"
that would include caravans but not be limited to caravans.
Ref your question, did you get this message when you logged into your Hotmail account, or was it delivered to another email address that is registered with your hotmail (now Live Mail) account?
If it was sent to another email addy outside hotmail it is definitely spam and DO NOT follow the link.
If it was your start up page as you were entering Hotmail it has been happening as the new "Live" setup tries to better identify their users. Try to skip it to get to your account without providing additional info for a free account.
Cheers

In a new "twist' to these phishing schemes we see these days, I had SMS on phone form Western Union trying to suck me in,,, same old same old.
HOWEVER, the TWIST is that a couple of days later an SMS says you may have recieved xxxxx from Western Union and it's a scam, please respond to ensure you are not involved (or words to this effect).
Good try eh, send the spam and then tell you later it's a con (especially as they know you haven't responded).
Many could feel "relaxed" and respond to the 2nd SMS thinking "someone" is trying to help them.
BE CAREFULL
Cheers Baz

Dump it mate. Had one the other day from paypal (really well done, looked genuine) checking that I'd made a payment to someone. Rather than using their provided link I signed into my account - no record of transaction. These clowns are getting more resourceful every day. The moment I see verify your identity the message is gone these days.

Wombat, I think someone might have hacked your account. I got an email from you today titled, Just Look. When I opened it there was a link to something I had no knowledge of so I deleted it straightaway.
Gidday Womby ! Hmmm this is strange ??? I have just recieved 2 emails from you ???? Did you send them ??? as they do not make any sense to me ??? If you did not send them, Let me know on here ?? or PM me on here,as i do not believe they came from you, but they ARE from your Email address ???? Let me Know ok Daz
Wombat this is the right spot to put this post we all need to be aware of these things , Has Nomad 246 has said change password has quick has you can and dump the email , Had a email when we were in North Queensland that didn't make senses any time this happen change password
Womby. the 2 emails i got from your address were titled,'' I am my own Boss'' and ''Great Opportunity'' They both went to a page that was offering work from home on the internet , and earn big bucks. Yeah sure ?? So i have deleted them now ?
Wombat Try googling your problem and see what you come up with, but if your address book has been hacked I can't see that changing your password will fix it as they already have your address list, also forward the problem to Hotmail support and see what they have to say. Also try the Hotmail forum amd see if there are posts re this problem Dont use Hotmail myself I found it was too prone to getting lots of spam in the Inbox, I find that Gmail has excellant filters and it is rare to get spam in my Inbox it is always put in the spam folder. Cheers David
Just got an email from Telstra saying my account was overdue- strange as my billing cycle iis not over yet, and I paid the last one. Looks just like the telstra one. Deleted it and went thru The real Telstra site to check. If you yhink its fishy- delete it.Bill
Roving-Dutchy the reason for changing your password is they use it to get into your account and send email from your account to trick your friends into there scam ,IF you answer the scam they have your password if you don't answer you are safe , they would have got your email address from a friend who they have scammed

The fix is to change your password. Here's a MS statement on the issue
1st - Install antivirus on your computer,,, good avice but it is usually the net server where they access your hotmail account and the password is obtained by using a password generator on hotmail's servers, usually not your PC. However you may have picked up Malware that could be unrelated to hotmail issues. (I hear some of you say you've already got antivirus on your PC,,,, )
2nd - Guess what,,, change the password to your hotmail account, make it a 'strong' password (google it if you need to know how to make a strong password)
I've heard of peoples hotmail accounts being hacked yet they have not been on their computer for many weeks, so logically if the computer is not online (powered down) it cannot be hacked.
Womby, my advice is from experience, not a guess. Had our hotty account compromised about 8 years ago. Changed to strong password and never happened since.
From my experience I'd also advise, not keeping an address book in hotmail as it is stored on the web, not your PC. Not keeping too many old emails which contain friends email addys, in folders. Deleting private photos after viewing, download to your pc if necessary, but get them out of your hotmail account.
This advice will not stop you from getting spam (as Bill12 has) but it will stop your online account being used to send spam to your friends.
There is enough evidence of Wombys friends getting spam from his account to conclude that a password change will more than likely rectify all the issues.
Cheers
