RE: How often do you cook in your van?

I don't cook in my van, but I do reheat in the micky wave, toast in the pop-up and boil the kettle for everything.
I could use the hot water service for dishes etc, but as I don't use the shower I don't see any point in wasting my gas when power is readily available in the park I'm in at the moment.
I have a stove outside and I have regular "cook ups" and then pre-pack and freeze the goodies.
The oven in the van stove is pot storage. If I cook a caserole-type meal I use the electric frypan or a large pot on the gas.
I've recently acquired an electric oven with 2 electric plates on top but I haven't been home long enough to test its capabilities.
Steam and oil fumes in the caravan do damage the surfaces and curtains.

HI Cuppie

Sorry it is not appropriate to discuss in detail what we are doing as some of the people from the forums that are hunting for information and then turn it around and use something we say but then confuse with different chemistry etc. are also on this forum.

I did do a big explanation but after consideration decide to deleted it.

I just tried in my first response to explain that lots are possible and people should not restrict their thinking to old technology but I don't want to pull this forum down to the level of some of the others so I feel it is best not to go too much into details.

It is sad that many don't get the option to use these batteries as they are around 50% of weight and size of an AGM and deliver twice the available Ah and all at 13v _ for a 12v battery. in other words if you have 200Am of AGM's say giving you 100AH usable in the same space for less weight you would get around 400AH giving you 320 Ah all delivered at above 13v.

The live cycle is still realy unknown, expected to be around 13 years or more, but a normal AGM is about 2 to 3 years, some say they get 5+ years but most say 2 - 3.

They do cost a little more for base AH, but if you compare AH available eg cost to purchase 100Ah usable in AGM to Lithium then Lithium is cheaper and then there is just the bonus of the extra years.

Regards
Brian

Hi Brian ..

OK.  I accept your position but it is a bit disappointing that we can't share the info.  A PM would be good if you wish.

cheers  .. G

yes was not our wish to keep the info secret but it was forced on us by a few who should have known better and grasped the information as they all were suppose to be learnered people but showed their true colours.
Regard
Brian

I'm wondering why the subject was even mentioned if it's not up for discussion.

It was mentioned because there is an option that many don't know about.

For those that are interested and we accept they have a genuine reason to know (they are going to, or have bought their batteries) then we invite them to a private forum where they can get all the information and help they need for free, no strings attached except the information they received is kept confidential. We are just not prepared to give it freely because some people prefer to pick fights than accept something that they are not the experts on.

Our forum is run by users for users and no one is making any money from it and there is only one supplier and he happens to be a supplier of the batteries but takes no part in the general discussion, just responds to requests for information from the users.

Is it best to let people know there are better options and then help them or just let all join the people who believe we cant do what we are in fact doing.

I no longer post on subjects of camping etc as I am a free camper and some don't like it, perhaps I should include threads on batteries and solar as well just for you.

Regards
Brian

We're a bit like Gerty Dancer. Cook inside the van when we have power, some outside cooking for meat on butane cooker, and use gas when no power. Even found that I can make toast in a teflon frying pan on the gas! Smells don't bother me - and our new gas stove is easy to clean up. Got rid of the gas oven as I found I didn't use it and have a toaster oven for when I'm using power. Haven't tried it on generator power yet.

The teflon frying pan makes a mean toasted sanga. I do one regularly for lunch whether at home or on the road.
