Wilks Park, Wagga Wagga NSW

Gday...

Camps6 - NSW site 801. Wilks Park, Wagga Wagga, is on the eastern side of the Murrumbidgee River, within walking distance of the town with no time limit or charge.

There are flushing toilets, dump point, townwater tap with good water, free electric BBQ, pets allowed.

It is a popular spot, but given the amount of space, there is room for the largest of vans.

Some photos for your interest.

Cheers - John

John,

I believe Council Ordinance does allow the Ranger to enforce an overnight limit but, the financial benefits to Wagga in allowing Nomads to rest up, service vehicles and replenish supplies is too great to strictly enforce. Although sometimes there are a few "ferals" camping in the bush there - so the ranger enforces time limits, but generally if you keep your camp tidy it's OK to stay a week or so.

I've stayed there several times this year - it is great! After each stay I send an email of thanks to the Council, advising them of my patronage to local shops, as I am aware local caravan parks want it closed.

Another great spot not too far away is the Jujiong showground - it also has free BBQ's and great toilets, etc. The added bonus at Jujiong is that the Long Track Pantry and Cafe is directly opposite - a true gourmets delight, agreat place for an anniversary/birthday lunch.  There is a donation box next to the swimming pool

Gday...

Thanks possum (and a big welcome to the forum ).

Rangers call here each day to assess the area. Almost all the vans you can see in the 2nd wide-angle photo have been here more than 5 days. As you say, cause no problems and eyes remain half-closed.

The council dude did mention that there were some 'ferals' back in the bush at other times, but they are becoming more and more discouraged at being moved on biggrin

Cheers - John

Peter Hi,

Yes sorry I should have mentioned Jujiong on the Hume Hgw, just past Gundegai.

When I am just meandering between the Wimmera and Sydney (home base) I stop at Wilks Park Wagga for a few days then stop at Jujiong for a couple more.

I know the entire distance can be accomplished in one drive, but I just find it pleasurable to have a couple of stops - and of course have a yarn with the other Nomads and local gentry in general - it has been said that I would walk a hundred yards in bare feet over a ploughed paddock to have a yarn with a stranger's dog.
