These bas#&$@s cased our daughter's & her parteners place as to their movements & struck in broard daylight. smashed in the front door & ransacked the entire house.
As our daughter works from home via the internet there was plenty of computors, Ipads, hardrives & associated equipment, also took her personal items , her xmas shopping & jewelery.
The talley of her lose is $22,000.
Her partener's lose is yet to be determined but is expected to be even higher as he had a very large computor setup as well as he is an electrical draftsman. They also took his gold medals from his rowing days, smashed all the glass in the display cabinates. etc.
We should be able to deal with these xyz.s in our own way.
JC.

so sorry to hear about this JC, problem is IF they do catch them they will only get a slap on the wrist and out in the community to do it again, when will our polies make sentances to fit the crime, they are a gutless group of people.
So sorry to hear about the break in.It's a really traumatic thing to happen to anyone.
The monetary loss is one thing, the feeling of helplessness and violation is the hard part.
Big problem is that it costs too much to keep someone in jail. With single cells and aircon ,24 hours a day medical dental optical care and all the other costs of which precription medicines are a huge burden.I would quite happilly work in a jail just for the amount it costs in various medicines a week.
Private jails too, making a profit as well.
I seem to recall seeing figures that put the cost of keeping a criminal in jail in Qld as around $60K+ a year
Maybe that Sherrif in the USA has the right idea.Basic rights and hard work with lowcost meals.
Hate to be a copper, work hard to find the crims then have them on the streets with that slap on the wrist.
Hi JC, it is such a terrible thing to have happen, more so in broad daylight; I know from personal experience that you cant help but feel violated, first our personal sense of security is destroyed, and any sense of justice in the courts is most unlikely to be found.
Sorry to hear JC I hope the Cops catch them and then a magistrate dishes out a jail sentence low life like this need to be dealt with to the maximum extent of the law, Hope your daughter and partner are ok as it can be an extremely stressful time, we will be thinking of you all.

Sorry to hear about your daughter's break in Jim and Leonie. Things are getting worse and worse these days. Hope their businesses don't suffer too much from this.
Sorry to hear that, but a lot can be done to prevent loss, maybe I spent to much time working for the DoE, where its a case of when, not if a computer will be stolen, or sites in Sydney where even large bars on windows won't discourage the drop kicks.
Some of the things I do at home: All laptops and other portable devices are locked up in metal tool chest when not in use, which with a bit of timber veneer can be made to look like reasonable, about $280 plus the veneer.
I also buy and collect broken laptops, iPods and iPhones and leave them in prominent places around the house, this is something we did in a office in Sydney and worked well.
I have 2 portable safes ($139 at Bunnings) one sits empty (but locked) beside the bed in plain view, the other with the valuables is in the roof, just in side the man hole.
Any desktop computers are kept in a modified filing cabinet, basically remove the bases out of the draws and cut some holes in the rear for cables and venting, then leave an old computer sitting on top or close by, with some dummy cables, hanging near, so it looks like I've disconnected it already.
Other wise I put the guts of the good computer in the biggest, ugly, heavy server case I can find, but this has backfired as they got half way to the door and dropped it.
But number one is have backups, and have a copy off site and if so technically inclined I use applications from portableapps.com on encrypted USB drive for anything personal such as email and banking etc.
I live in a remote house on a property and don't lock the doors, mainly because I would rather not fix the damage, in the last 4 years my house has been entered 3 times, one time I was home, and they grab what they can and run, so they don't stuff around with the tele or stereo when there are laptops and iPods to grab and be gone.

These bastards have no idear of the hurt and destruction to peoples lives they cause.. I am still suffering from the damage done to my Motorhome several months ago and know just how they feel. I wish your Daughter all the best in getting it all back togther its not easy.
I was once a guest of a family in America who had been burgled 4 times in 2 years, their home was isolated like yours Oxley. They eventually found a solution in a very large Rottweiler! Their front and rear doors had openings in the centre about 8 inches square and anybody who came near their door could see that dog's growling mug... veeeery scary. No more burglaries. Beautiful dog too, I used to walk her out on the hills and felt absolutely safe, in an area where on arrival I was warned never to go alone.
Only just talking tonight about a break in across the road yesterday. Went in and stole a car etc. they are getting bolder. Hey Gerty, how the devil are you? I'm in Darwin.
