Do people use Water Filters when filling van water tanks?

We always filter the water via a B.E.S.T. filter, 0.5 micron and silver to kill bacteria. usually about $110.00 and supposed to be good for 30,000 litres. just reverse flush it when you finished filling your tanks.

I always use it in line when we are connected to town supply too. edit dont know why the link is going like that but it is bes****erfilters

look here: www.bes****erfilters.com.au

hope that helps

We have three water tanks on our van, one is dedicated drinking water, the other is for general cooking, shower, toilet etc.

The drinking water tap has a filter under the sink, but we still filter water when filling the tanks, so in effect, our drinking water is double filtered.  When in a caravan park, linked up to mains, we still leave the filter on.

Not sure of microns etc, not my department, I only drink the stuff!  You can buy at any reliable caravan supply store.

The main reason we always filter, as a lot of our travels take us outback where there is only access to bore water, or de-salinated water (which is palatable).

Hi All,

Do people use water filter in-line on their hoses when they are filling their water tanks in their vans?

If yes - what sort?

How many microns?

And where do you get them?

Thanks in advance

Chris

 No, not while filling.

The quality of water in the tank is of small consequence, it is what comes out of the tap that is important.

We chlorinate our water (to kill bugs) when we fill the tank and then use a 0.5uM active carbon filter (household size) near the outlet tap. The brand of filter is not the important part.

Filling your tank with clean water may NOT ensure that it is safe to drink weeks or months later when you come to use it. Some bugs do grow in the dark and water at 35C is a great environment for them to do it.

Cheers,

Peter

Gee you're slow. If you were a dirty minded deviate like me you'd have found it straight away!

Bloody ridiculous isn't it, when the dumb internet filter won't let you put up a legitimate internet site! Unfortunately the forum site is third party hosted and our webmaster has no control over it.

Hi ChrisandPeter, we us e the B.E.S.T in-line filter. Consider it to be the best ( sorry ) it filters right down to 1micron and has been mentioned all you do to clean it is just reverse connect it and flush it out. I have a policy of filtering any water that goes into my tanks even if it's town water. Trust that helps in your choice. Brian

Thanks everyone for your input.

The BEST filters look very good, but Peter you make a very good point!

I will do a little more research.

Catch you all out there!
