THe Xtrail I purchased has free 3 year roadside assistance. It covers vehicle only and no addiyional cover is vailable for a camper even if you want to pay for it.
I see RACV offer trailer and caravan assistance, am I better off getting vehicle and Camper cover or just getting Camper. I suppose to answer my own question If I have a problem with both then I'll have 2 people turning up individually.

I would be having a hard look at just what Nissan class as roadside assistance.
Quite a few years back we done a trip to cape york with a group, This included a new nissan patrol with the roadside service,luck happened that it suffered some radiator & hose damage in a creek crossing. The owner was quite certain that nissan would come up & fix it if he could ring them, I said good luck.
We patched it up & nursed it back to where there was a small service centre & a phone. The call was made to Nissan & the reply was if you can get it back to Cairns we will look at it, Just as I thought.
The guy in the service centre was just as hopless, had no idear of how to repair it as he didn't have the correct hose so your's truley had to show him how to do it. With my repair system the vehicle made it all the way back to the owners home on the Mid North Coast.
In my experience's the NRMA; RACQ etc will recover the towed unit as well if the vehicle has to be towed.I have actually had this done.
The full roadside service offered from the likes of the NRMA &RACQ ( or what is in your state )are the best value for money that you will ever get. Check them out .

We have premium care with our XTrail with NRMA and when the springs on van gave us a problem the caravan was taken by NRMA and delivered onto a CP site from the back of the tilt tray. NRMA paid for our site until we were able to move on. Great service. We never had to use our free roadside assistance from Nissan - but we kept Classic cover while we had it and upgraded to Premium when it ran out.
Hi all, road side assistance is great as long as you make sure that there are no hidden small print exclusions. A friend of ours took out extra cover for mechanical repairs on his Pajero and was told that it included everything that could go wrong was covered. Hence a few months later a coolant hose to the turbo failed and cooked the engine, when he went to claim it on the policy the company said that only some internal components were covered and that he should have read the policy to see what was covered. Of course we all know how things are worded and he was left with a 3 thousand dollar bill, he even went back to the guy who sold him the insurance and said about being told by him everthing was covered, guess what the reply was "you need to read the policy" I suppose thats the truth you do need to read all the print, and then again just to make sure. Maybe we need to have a page set aside to promote the companies that are trustworthy and have great service.
Manufacturers roadside assist is usualy whoever they can get to tow you (here localy its the scrap man). Mechanical insurance is generaly not worth having, if you read the fine print there will be plenty of out clauses. Have seen enough customers left in the lurch.
Road service covers minor repairs at roadside if possibile ,&/or recovery to a suitable repair centre,some accomodation & car hire if applicable, doesnt cover the repair bill as that is the owners responability. As stated, roadside assistance; not a free vehicle repair.

We have just taken out NRMA Premium roadside assistance as I have been a member for 50 years it comes half price main reason was for assistance with the van if we had a problem when away with the van also discovered that they will only tow up to two ton van which makes mine borderline so hope they dont weigh them, its been many years since I have had to call roadside assistance but knowing my luck it will happen with the van on the back.

just be a little aware with rac, I have premuim cover in tas but it is like for like with vic but not wa. I now also have now purchased rac wa and thank heveans I did as it saved me $3500 in fees but also had to pay $1650 to tow the van. Read all the fine print cheers blaze
David, If I were you I would check on any length restrictions, I think the length is limited to 5.5m, but suggest you phone for the length, width, height and weight limitations.

All the major clubs (RAA , RACQ, NRMA etc etc ) are all aligned through the AAA in Australia and offer reciprical service all over the world. In some cases with Premium or Plus membership it is provided by your home club, not the state you are in. There are some services you may have to pay for then claim back from your home club. Most if not all of them provide you with a 1800 number to contact them direct for them to make arrangements for you. I am a bit bias but I would not go anywhere else for road side assistance. I have been employed by RAA as Patrol or contractor for over 30yrs so definatly a little bias :). But is excelent value for money. A lot of manufacturers offer roadside assistance through these clubs but it is done a as a comercial conteract and in some cases has very limited services offered. In short KEEP you personal membership. Extended mechanical warrenty is unsually not worh the paper its written on!
