Nundle

Went to Nundle 40km south of Tamworth, 10km from Lake Chaffey free camp where I am staying. Found a little treasure of a shop. Has all sorts of stuff like wooden pegs, enamel basins, jugs, and pie dishes, real feather dusters, NZ made bristle brushes with the metal scrapper ( like the shearers use), loose tea in the old boxes, local honeys, jams vinegars, the old fashioned metal spinning tops, home-made soap  and much much more .... fascinating wandering around. Dont think there was anything plastic in the place!

Took the unsealed road in there - it is fine for a van. Just windy and a little narrow but follows the Peel River. Pretty drive. Probably a better surface than the sealed road! Found local smoked and fresh trout at the grocers. Caravan park looked fairly full.

Gday...

It sounds like a rewarding day. The building (the shop?) in your photo looks like it could tell a thousand tales biggrin

Cheers - John

Hi Spida
We went through Nundle & Chaffey Dam last boxing day on our way to Woolomin (free camp). Just up the road a bit from the dam.
We stayed there as both the caravan park & Chaffey dam was packed as one would expect over the summer holidays.

We really enjoyed checking out the shops in Nundle, we had been through Nundle in 2010 but we did a farmstay then so not much time to check the town out.

Enjoy your travels & stay safe, we are heading off on Wednesday. We are heading south.

Robyn & Steve

G'day Spida

We live about and hour and a half from Chaffey and often go there to get away for a few days. It is a top spot and we treasure it but just so you know it is not "free" Please ensure you pay your way at the box at the gate so we can all continue to enjoy that area.

I say this because there have been many people use the area and not pay their way and the committee that run the place are struggling to keep it open. I have often seen people go to the showers and not make a gold coin donation as is asked for and I wonder just how can people be so greedy that they put this place at risk of closing for the sake of a few dollars.

I do hope you will do the right thing

thanks mate

absolutely - even gave a little extra as I didnt have the right changesmile Yes - the word 'Free' should not be used. So many here this weekend. Cops drove around last night - pity it wasnt this morning when an idiot in a ute had a maybe 6 yr old girl sitting on his knee steering the vehicle down the road - and not going slow either! I hope the 2 large carp chucked under a tree down the road are buried by now also.

Maybe a coin operated gate and shower ....... but then no doubt there are those who would get around that also and would cost you money as well to install. Or someone collecting at the gate on weekends confuse

Good luck and I do hope you can keep it open - a glorious spot.
