Oh you are cruel Billeeeee......having to eat 10 hot dogs and me a vegetarian!!! The only heaven I believe in is the here and now, which is sometimes heaven, sometimes hell depending on what life hands you.....I don't believe in the hereafter, but must admit I was thinking of converting after hearing about all those virgins waiting for those of one particular faith....sounded like fun !
Howdyeee Traveller, used to b a vegatarian, tried it for 2 years, a friend of mine used to make the best Gluten steaks in the world, Bacon and mince pies ,yumbo,, bugger we r off topic, stay excited Vic....................Billeeeeee
As children, were trained to do what were told. If we follow this instruction, were labelled good, if we go the other way, were bad. This can mess a lot of things up, as time passes, and we find ourselves facing many other possibilities, alternatives, and shades of gray.
Over the course of your life, folks are going to tell you what to do over and over again. Color within the lines; avoid risk; be a good boy scout.
Some of this will be well intentioned; many think youll fare better if you dont rock the boat. Others are ass-faces who find reassurance in knowing that theyre not the only ones who chose the safe path.
The plan goes like this: study hard, get good grades, attend a respected university, find a decent job, work your way up the ladder, procreate (twice), and upgrade your home every 5 10 years. All of which are fine, but this is just one course amongst many.
What if theres another way?
What if you dropped out of school and walked across the country? What if you decided grades were sort of silly, and instead read all the interesting things you could find? What if you volunteered some time in a developing country and met someone whod never spent a moment thinking about life? What if you tasted every taste, saw every sight, faced the things that frightened you, and got a couple of scuffs along the way?
You have one life. Live it as you will, but perhaps take a moment to consider an alternative path. There is a wide chasm between the ways you could pass through existence and the lame-ass lives most choose. Besides, should you fail, youll at least have a couple of good stories to tell.
Do whatever you want. Im not here to prescribe life decisions. At the same time, I feel its worth reminding you that within 100 years you, and everyone you love, will be gone. All the **** youre stressing out about will be long forgotten. stay excited........Billeeeeeee
The swarm of convention is a tsunami that absorbs all in its way. You are powerless against it. (Until you decide you are not.)
Like they say Billeeee.....different strokes for different strokes, you reminded me of a speech attributed to Theodore Roosevelt;
It is not the critic who counts, or how the strong man stumbled and fell, or whether the doer of deeds could have done better.
The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, who knows the great enthusiams, the great devotion and spends himself in a worthy cause.
If he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly, so that he will never be one of those cold and timid souls who know neither victory or defeat.
(Theodore Roosevelt's words above are inscribed on the grave of Harold Lewis Bell Lasseter (of Lasseter's Reef fame) in the old Alice Springs Cemetery).
Billeeeeeee and Duh - have taken the liberty of reposting your last two posts on another topic in I Digress - Never Give Up - seemed relevant to me. Hope you don't mind.
