i know I've talked alot about this the last few months,

but its all part of my research , of what I would like some day

or what might be helpful for those doing their own home work etc

In my research one of the websites i look at is

http://www.sydneyrvcentre.com.au/used-motorhomes-app/toyota-hiace-pop-top

and I notice how many vans are from the mid 80's -90's and have 200,000 k's or more on them

and still at a heavy price.. this would be something i wouldnt mind, being auto etc

i know not all could afort the ones with low k's that start at the $40,ooo k's etc

but i have also latley been thinking about ( maybe thru a windfall or inherintance one day)

either a mediam sized car like my dads (2006 honda accord) and an avan , at least  I know

that will fit thru my garage door with carport..

at least thats my dreams, one day

what made you pic what you are traveling with now??

just thought would be an interesting topic for those still draming/learning etc

Easy milo, the only vehicle that I could afford for under $5000 was the 1979 Hi Ace but it has taken me round Australia plus still on the road at Green's. John

 Hi Milo

I am looking for my motorhome / coaster style bus , as I don't want to tow.   I also have found the same that recent years and low kms are upwards of $60,000 and new start at around a $100,000.  I just keep looking

Pretty simple choice really. Wanted to take the dogs with me & too many/too big to go in car, been around vans since I was a kid (dad got rid of his last one about ten years ago at 80 odd) plus wanted the freedom of a cab chassis 4WD with canopy to get to places on occasions that would wreck the van that I wanted. Hence now have a Mazda BT50 Freestyle with a tray of my own design, cage type canopy with removable dog crate & picking up our new Coromal Lifestyle 667XC van at the end of this month. Hopefully by that stage reno's on the house will be complete so that it can go on the market & we're outa here only to return each summer to see what family still lives in the area. Will catch up with all the others as we travel through every state on the mainland. Forced to downgrade to visiting cousins rather than brothers/sisters/kids/grandkids if we decide to go to Tassie lol.

As far as possible, given that we both prefer the bush rather than the coast, we'll be living off the land to a fair degree as well.

I've got a Jayco Conquest that I bought 2nd hand nearly 2 years ago. What influenced my decision? In terms on the caravan vs motorhome part of the decision I suppose 3 things:

1. Security - if I'm not comfortable with a situation I don't have to go outside. If worst comes to worst I can just hop behind the wheel and drive off.

2. OK right now I could probably manage the hitch/unhitch thing - but I'm not in this for the short haul and could I still manage it 10 years from now?

3. I'm crap at reversing - I don't like to think about what I could do reversing a caravan.

When I was still thinking about it I found it really useful to visit GNs in my local campsite (OK it was EPIC in Canberra but it did have a lot of GN type people) and ask them what worked for them and what didn't - got a lot of ideas that way.

Then I started watching the CMCA Members Market online (http://www.cmca.net.au/pages/members_market/index.php). You don't have to be a member to use the members market and it has a constantly updated list of vehicles for sale - this gave me a good idea of what's available at what price. In fact I finally bought a vehicle that was advertised on this site.

This is just what I found important in my decision making and how I went about it. But I hope it helps a little. Good luck with your decision making.

Cheers, Lynda

Hi all.

Joined this forum a couple of weeks ago.

There is quite a lot to read, full of very usefull info.

I am currently looking for my first GN Vehicle.

I put this question forward in the Solo`s section, thanks to Gypsey Rover ,Sarg & Jules 47 for their replies & suggestion to put forward in this section of the forum.

As well as trying some by renting to see which may be suitable

Looking for some different thoughts that make GN`s choose either Motorhomes, Campervans or Caravans.

At this stage leaning towards Coaster or Civilian with postie bike for getting about.

Cheers

Ian
