Kangaroo deflectors

This topic was discussed again, very recently.  Have you used the "Search" facility ?   They must be placed high on the vehicle, and don't start working 'till you're doing 60k's.  If you have them low down, there is not enough airflow for them to work properly.

I wouldn't be without them.

Cheers,

Sheba.

Thanks vk6tnc.

I had a very close encounter with a kangaroo when I was travelling around Qld recently and have attached a couple of kangaroo deflectors on the front of my motorhome.  Apparently they emit a high frequency sound which scares the kangaroos off.

I'm yet to be convinced but thought I would give them a go anyway.

Does anyone know if they actually work?

A couple of years back, planning to cross the Nullabor to Esperance, W.A., I was told to look out for Roos, Emus and Camels, that there will be plenty of them. This encouraged me to buy a pair, just a couple of Dollars, and install them on the front bumper. I no longer travel at night when you will see a lot of Roos anywhere in their local habitat. Travelling in day time across the Nullabor in both directions, I saw one small Roo on the side of the road. I slowed down and moved to the right in case he jumped out. He didn't. Did the deflectros save me ? Who knows ! But apart from the one small Roo, I saw no Emus and no Camels...

Not sure about these sonic noise devices, I have done quite a few outback trips at night. Got a roo up near dubbo one night, it jumped into the side of my car. Also did a trip from the barrossa to perth, mostly at night and seen 4 or 5 small greys and 3 rabbits, toatal animals seen on that trip. I have never had them. My mate in tassie has them and cleans up a small walaby once a week. (see hundreds of these on tthe road in tassie, even in the middle of lots of towns)

I had these on my car........... We live in kangaroo territory, you should have seen my car. Dents everywhere! If you drive passed cattle and sheep and other animals they don't even look up as you drive by with all the so called sonic sounds your car is emitting!

As I said in the earlier Post, they won't work there !!!!!  If you read the instructfions for fitting them properly, you will see that they say to put them on a high point on the vehicle .  Where you have them, whatever noise they might make, will be blocked by the body of the vehicle, so the animals won't here it !!!

Also, you must be doing 60kph, before they start working.

If you look closely above the top of the passenger window, you'll see where I have mine.  [The Pic. didn't come up as big as I thought it would, which makes it hard to see.   It's on the top, directly above the pale sticker inside the front of the window.]

Just added a better Pic.

Another contentious subject, but I believe as do many others that they CAN work.

Also placing them ON the front bumper does work IF you can put them in clear airflow.  Mount them higher on roof or gutters you can inadvertantly put them in low air pressure areas or disturbed airflow.

We see roos stop and listen and look when we approach,,,,, much sooner than when we didn't have them on.

Had them on 2 vehicles for over 10 years,,, living in the NT and on the road with van in 4 states,, mostly out bush.

Keep em clean inside as they can get bugs inside.

Good luck

Thanks everyone for your replies.  I have mine on the front grille, so will get another set and put on the roof.  The techno whiz from autobarn told me that different frequencies affect different animals.  I was worried about my dog, but he said he wouldn't be able to hear it, so maybe that is why sheep, etc don't react.
