I'm now at Mount Gambier SA

Hi folks!

Spent last night in a CP in Beachport. Totally agree with Ole Grizzly, lovely place, and yes, we liked it better than Robe too.

Awesome views, a photographers dream.

But...the wind came up during the night, and rocked poor Lulu all night long! Naturally the rain came with it. Got up this morning to find the wind was coming straight from Antarctica! Bl**dy freezing! And very fine rain while we were trying to pack up. The park manager very kindly let us keep my rig and sis&bils van there while we drove around in their car sightseeing. Every time we got out of the car to take a photo, we nearly got blown away!

Never mind, all part of the adventure. So we headed on to camp at Mt Shank, CAW 6 #5, south of Mt Gambier, only to find it's a terrible spot to try to park 2 caravans. It may be okay for small campervans or tents though. So we went back to the showgrounds in Mt Gambier, only to be told that council will only allow 9 caravans/motorhomes to stay. And they were 'full'. There was still heaps of room, but no, we couldn't stay. I'm assuming the local CP's have something to do with this decision.

So we've ended up in Central Park CP, booking for 2 nights so we can have a look around tomorrow. We're also going to meet up with Fireheart (Alison) tomorrow for a cuppa and chat.

Mount Gambier is a nice place - the Blue Lake, and the sunken gardens are worth a look.

Thanks Marj, I will.

Yes, Jules, they're on our list. Sis & bil have been here before, although a long time ago, so they're looking forward to seeing it all again.

Bugga...what a pity I am not home, as you would have been most welcome to find a comfy spot in my back or side yard at Kalangadoo.  Is a great hub location for branching out to visit different locations.

But this bloke at Greens has kept me occupied with keeping him under control as we viewed the delectable talent in the main streets of Shepparton. Was about to purchase a dog collar and lead until he got hungry after the Op Shops.

Won't tell you what item most interested him, but wasn't sure if the flap goes to the back or front.

Catch up on the way around this vast land Beth & Co....Enjoy...

Well that is a pity Ole Grizzly. I saw the sign for Kalangadoo. As you say, we'll meet somewhere out there.

Last time we were in Mt Gambier was on our honeymoon 44yrs ago.Our trip took us through Vic to Adelaide. Our car a Morris Major kept breaking down, but we were young and very adventurous.

From what I remember the lakes were beautiful, we had dinner at a chinese restaurant in the main street and we had a cabin in a CP which was very primitive by todays standards.

We are going that way next year on a tour of SA.

Looking forward to going back via the Great Ocean Rd and Portland.

Lovely to meet you too Sharon. Boy we had a busy day after leaving you! Could have stayed another day, but we have to keep moving.

Hopefully we'll see you in Qld in the not too distant future. Good luck with selling the house. smile

Pambaz, Dad had a Morris Major many moons ago, so I know what you mean about breaking down. aww

If anyone's coming to 'the Mount', you must see the volcano documentary in town near the Garden Cave. It tells how the Limestone Coast was formed, the volcanos of western Vic and eastern SA and how the Blue Lake and Valley Lake became as they are. Very interesting.
