12v tv

Most of the smaller TVs on the market today are 12/240v. In fact they're usually 12 volt jobs that come with a cig lighter plug plus a little black box (techies call it a power supply) to enable the TV to be run from the 240v mains.

Check out your local retailer.

I'll leave it to others here to suggest on-line dealers as I'm not as familiar with the on-line suppliers as others are.

( I was typing up my post when Patto posted his hence some repetition of the info in his post)

Depending  on what size you want, any electrical outlet. Most TV's up to about 26" have an adapter (regulator) and operate at 12v. You need an appropriate 12v outlet and lead. I use a cigarette outlet in the van.

Cheers

Try Kogan
http://www.kogan.com/au/shop/televisions/?feature=9-12-volt-power

We got the 22' LED with DVD with a 12Volt connector delivered for $205 just recently.
They deliver in about 3-4 working days.

If you sign up for their newsletter they have different specials all the time.

We are very happy with the unit have hooked it up to the aerial at home and it works well.
Have also used the DVD and input from a hard drive - these work very well too.

All we need is an aerial for the camper!

BTW - no affiliation etc. with Kogan just a happy customer.

Also - I still can't get links to enter properly, i type the link in (or cut and paste) and press return straightaway but it doesn't highlight/underline
- i don't know what i'm doing wrong!!!

Kogan has all the sizes and great prices as Chris and Peter have suggested. I was just about to buy one last Xmas when I was given an Aldi one for Xmas. Anywhere you can buy a TV you can buy a small 12 volt.

Don't use quick reply..Click the reply button. In the middle row of tool buttons you will see links in a chain. This is the insert link tool

Hope this helps

Hi

I have a kogan tv/dvd led tv. I think its 21". Just be mindful they only have  3 watt speakers and if you have any hearing problems you may find it too quiet as I do. Picture quality is good.

Cheers Mal

Thanks, everyone. Have just spoken to a techie at Dick Smith(where we got our new van tv from), and I just need to buy an inverter, which we were going to get anyway. Cheers Seano

What size Tv is it. If it's only a small one check that it doesn't already provide for 12 volt operation.  Does the power cord for the TV come straight out of the set and plug into the wall with no gizmos in the lead or does it have a little box in the cord. If the latter, it's odds on that the set can be powered from the 12v using a different cord.

If getting an inverter I endorse Wombat's comment re getting a Pure Sine Wave job.

All small TVs DO NOT come as 12 V sets. When looking at them in shops have a look at the power input at the back. If you power cord is hard wired they are 240 V sets. If you can unplug the power cord it will most likely be 12 V, the voltage will be marked near the socket (I have not seen any lately that were not 12 V but have in the past, it pays to check in case some manufacturer deviates.)
