Currently staying at Nimbin Showgrounds $15 per night with power. Not in the camps book as yet. I think that visiting Nimbin should be on every bodies must do list. It is different from anywhere else. If here must see the candle factory.

It sounds like it has improved. Last time we were there, about 13 years ago, we were pestered all up and down the street by drug dealers. We finally took refuge in the pub to escape them LOL. Beer has always been my drug of choice.

Hmmmm.....went there once when we had the Avan camper, drove up from Lismore.
One the way out looking at the map, decided to turn west into a road just outside Nimbin as on the map it look like a good short cut west instead of going back via Lismore.......big mistake, the bitumen soon ran out and the road was as rough as guts, shook the hell out of the Avan and went on for some ways before we got back to civilisation. Mind you this was about 12 years ago so things may have changed since then.....

If it's the Stony Chute road you're talking about (most direct route west to Kyogle), that's now sealed. Still twisty and up and down.

I was there last week and the only sign of evolution I saw was that one of the local industries, the Rainbow Power Company, seems to be doing well selling state-of-the-art off-the-grid power systems. Yes, it's not quite that bad now. Still a few dealers around but they are mostly easy to spot, mostly subtle, and not persistent. One of the committee members at the showground used to be a local cop and said the anti-social behaviour of the dealers was one of his main targets. Sounds like he succeeded! (He also reckoned that only 15% of visitors aren't going there for weed.)
Yes, that's the one Moblet, just looked at the map, "Stoney" was right, it had all these sharp stones on it, really had to go slow, glad it's been sealed now, thanks for the feedback!

We were in Nimbin a couple of months ago. Great place to have a wander around and the natives are all friendly. Certainly a place to put on your bucket list. Make sure you try the hemp soup. (no, i did'nt. boss wouldn't let me.) Travelled the Kyogle- Nimbin rd and don't remember anything adverse about it, but we were not towing at the time. Just a bit twisty, as Duh says, but no problem.

The unmade Kyogle road I went on was 12 years ago John, before it was sealed, very bumpy and sharp edged stones, glad it is sealed now as Moblet pointed out.
We were there in August this year . Decided to go there from Byron Bay with the directions given by our Navman. We must have gone 50klms out of our way, road was windy and pretty rough. Thoroughly enjoyed Nimbin, yes some of those 60's Hippies are still there and all looking pretty worn and weathered. Didn't try the "cookies" .
Went back to Ballina via Lismore .Navman please note !! saving many kilometres. Navman is coming very close to being thrown out the window. Gave us grief in Cairns sending us down a dead end. Its got one more chance.
Nimbin is a great place - very friendly - food is great, best coffee around - good place to spend some time!!!!! Might get to the Mardi Grass in May next year!! Come with us Marj!!

I'm guessing you took the road through The Channon. I find it extraordinary that this road is signposted as a main route into Nimbin from the east, given how hilly and twisty it is. When I ended up on it I assumed I had taken a wrong turn or missed a sign, but no, that's supposedly a main road to Nimbin, according to both my GPS and road signage. I mean, sure, no road into Nimbin is flat and straight, but deliberately sending anyone that way is ridiculous. If it was anywhere else it would be bearing a sign saying it wasn't suitable for trucks or caravans.
