Hmm..... earlier today I signed into our Hotmail a/c - no worries, but this afternoon I found that Microsoft would not let me in, even though I signed in as before, but now they want more personal info, saying that a password is not enough if they need to get in touch with us!!!! Has anyone else come across this, and if so, how do I 'fix' the situation so I can get back into our Hotmail a/c. Ta and thank you.

A few years ago I was able to open my hotmail but not actually do anything... this went on for about a week, then it locked me out. Nothing I could do. Fortunately I'd written down all the e-mail addresses on my list, and later opened a gmail account. So far so good, but it keeps asking me for my moblie #. I reckon Google knows enough about me already! Good luck with it Pejay!
yes, it happened to me only a few weeks ago. Exactly how you are describing, maybe because we went back in for the 2nd time that day, although I often go back in to hotmail 5 or 6 times a day. Anyway I had to go through that process and it took 5 days. When I was back in they sent me an email asking me to rate them. Boy, did I give them a piece of my mind. Heard nothing since.

I tried it for awhile but found it a damned nuisance. Otherwise, no probs at all with gmail.
Thanks, yes got Win Live. Would you believe I have used that for all my "official e-mails" up until my partner downloaded some stupid program that was supposed to clean up the junk out of the computer and it deleted the whole Win Live from my user!!!. Its just not there. His still works of course.
Same with hotmail, can use it on any computer anywhere. My biggest problem when I lost mine for 5 days was all my online accounts send their notifications to that address.. Plus centrelink and a few other important notifications. Wasn't sure what I was going to do if I lost it permanently. Mainly because I wouldn't remember who they all were.
I was locked out of hotmail by microsoft a while ago but did get an email from them. They said my address had been hijacked by spammers and was sending hundreds of emails via my computer everytime i logged on. Apparently microsoft monitors the number of emails sent and blocks it if they think it is too high. I had to go through a long winded process of identifying myself. You can open another hotmail account if you want to continue sending email however I eventually went to gmail where I never receive any spam.
No, you can use the new Outlook.com interface with an existing @hotmail.com or @live.com address. Microsoft has no plans (and no reason) to abandon support for those addresses.

Well yesterday was trying to get my mail that worked in the morning and not that afternoon from (outlook) part of Microsoft Office, what I do is have my gmail come through outlook and have never had a problem till yesterday, for somebody that's been in computers for 20 years you would think it would be fix by now, no not yet just can not work it out but I do know there was a microsoft update the other day and trying to see if that has done somthing

Well good on Google, looks like they are to blame, now to get it to work...
Allow a new application to access your account
As a security precaution, Google may prevent an application from accessing your account if it's the first time we've seen this application sign in to your account, or if it's attempting to sign in from a new location.
If you want to allow an application to access your account: 1. Click the Continue button below 2. Sign in using the application you want to authorize access to your account within the next ten minutes. Google will remember the application after it signs in, and will allow it to access your account in the future as long as it uses the correct password.
Note: Since your account uses 2-Step Verification, you may need to create an application-specific password to sign in with your application.
