Warren Gorge freecamp

One of the more beautiful freecamps we used on our recent trip to the Flinders Ranges was Warren Gorge near Quorn. Toilets and rubbish facilities provided by local authotities. Sunsets, magnificent red rock gorge and rare yellow footed rock wallabies provided by nature. A beautiful place to stop over.

Love Warren George. As a child (in the 70's) my parents and siblings spend many weekends there. That tree your standing in was there back then. I have pictures of it with my dad's car parked in front and then later back in 1989 I went back and parked my EH in front and got another shot. I love the Flinders Ranges and will be getting back there again soon. KenK, not sure if you have already been or know of the place but down in the Mt Remarkable Nat Park on the East side near Willington (from memory) there is the most spectacular george, Alligator George, is worth the drive in.

My lovely wife referred me to these shots. Yes I agree it is indeed a beautiful place and another of many reasons to visit the Flinders Ranges area. We also drove through Brachina, Bunyroo and Parachilna Gorges. All were stunning and memorable - even for me!

Thanks folks. We were so taken by the Flinders that we intend going back and have started a list of things to do on the next trip. Will add Alligator Gorge to it.
Regards
Ken

KenK, I don't know how much of the Flinders you did see but if you can take a drive through Brachina George. I did it with the EH. I would take a RV through though. There are Yellow Footed Rock Wallabies there also.

Cheers Shazz

It seems I'm a bit like you Shazz - "don't know how much of the Flinders I saw". Told my wife how good Alligator Gorge sounds and she said she knew as we walked it when we were in Melrose on our recent trip.
Regards Ken

Sacred Canyon is rather a nice spot too. Some of the aboriginal rock carvings look a little too recent though.

With my wife's permission I can say we definitely did not visit Sacred Canyon... but it is on our list for next visit. Thanks Brenda and Alan, regards Ken

KenK you must go Sacred Canyon, nice spot also. I don't think there were too many places I didn't see as a kid. Our parents were the type who loved getting out and I owe it to them that I also love getting out and about.

Cheers Shazz

Great photos smile Toured through the Flinders in 78 with a mate both on  on a 500cc Yamaha trail bikes fitted with long range fuel tanks with my sleeping bag and tent on the back. Slept in Warren Gorge the first night... Woke up a 3am freezing..yawn.stoked up the campfire and watched the sun rise.. It was all free camping back then. Went all the way to Arcaroola hot springs. Kept off the main roads as much as possible finding alternative routes along back tracks . After Wilpena pound all roads were dirt anyway..Got a flat front tyre in the middle of nowhere :disbelief( Luckily I had a can of FINILEC tyre sealant with me and was mobile in 10 mins,,biggrin Twas a great adventure. The Flinders are a MUST SEE .. I will be showing the other half them if I can work out what to do with the dog... Not allowed in with a dog sadly disbelief

PS Dog is a killer POODLE!!!!  More like I'd have to protect the dog from the wild life...no biggrin

Me too Pinto. I have a Chihuahua. Couldn't let her out of the vehicle. Wildlife are killers.
